Changed the export settings to just HD (.264), 1080, 30p. Worked OK.

Also, since a change in preview settings was previously mentioned, all my sequence settings are greyed out – can’t change any of them.

Wow – that was a long work-around, but it works. The Apple ProRes 422 plays flawlessly on Premiere Pro CS6. Thanks! Now, what’s the difference between ProRes 422, 422LT, etc… (it’s always something…)

Thanks, Ryan. I had the same issue, so I downloaded the codecs from Apple (ProRes_Presets.zip), unzipped them and put the folder into the folder with Adobe Media Encoder (in it’s own folder). I then imported them, but when I try to use them, I get that the preset is incompatible with the present preset…
No idea why or what settings to use. I’m trying to do this with Quicktime in Media Encoder CS6. Any help?

I’m running PPro CS6 on Yosemite. New iMac, 16 gigs memory, no issues.

David – I KNEW you were going to say that! 😉
I’m not up for spending more at this time, so I’ll likely stick with 1080 for now. It was just an experiment anyway – the Phantom 3 Pro does nice 4k…
I’d like to know, though, why the iMac will play the files with no problem in Preview, or just the Mac Finder window. No issue at all. Actually, I can play several 4k files at the same time with no problem.

If I have to transcode, I’ll do that – can you recommend the best approach for that?

  • OK, I’m editing 4k in a non-top-of-the line machine. Top iMac, actually, but 4k is choppy, and I’m happy to transcode – don’t know the best way to do that though…

BTW, I’ve tried this on a built-in SSD drive with the exact same result. It seems like it comes off the drive ok for about 5 seconds. I’m happy to transcode – but don’t know the best way to do that. Again, it’s .mov files. Any help…

    Thanks

Excellent – my thoughts (almost) exactly. I’d love to see a bit of classic Charleston.

The wider angle lens will certainly help with both shake and depth of field. There’s also some good post ‘filters’ that’ll help with camera shake – especially if you can crop in post. The 5DIII is a difficult camera for video: great in low light, but difficult to hold focus. This is where a second camera (for B roll) would be valuable.
