    Hi,

funny, that yesterday I had the exact same problem…

I got 12 fps preview of an SD DV file, however in the trimmer I got 25fps preview.
Once I moved the event to another track, the preview sped up!
That made me think it is related to the track, and voila:
shadow and glow were enabled for that track – which were not visible of course, because the track was fitting the preview…

September 24, 2007 at 2:43 am in reply to: XViD .avi in Vegas?

    Hi,

[R Gould] ” What program should I use to convert the AVI?”

    Virtualdub. 🙂

Both audio and video menu have these option independently:
“direct stream copy” “full processing” “compression”.

Set both to “full proc”, and select “compression” – the codec.

    For audio I recommend “uncompressed”.
    For video is mjpeg OK.

Then “file”/”save as avi” and wait 😉

I can recommend Morgan multimedia mjpeg,
I have the version 3 for years now.
Probably there are updates for it, but I’m completely satisfied with it.
It had an extra long trial period, not sure but it was over 2 months or so.
Look for it, or use uncompressed – huge output file, but the chepaest codec!!!
    😉

    Hope I could help.

    Hi,
Virtualdub handles almost any avi if you have a codec for it.
Vegas needs additional conditions for being able to handle that codec. (Based on Edward Troxel’s answer I asked here sometime long before: why I colud not open a file when I had the codec for it – I guess it was about quicktime- or realalternative).

So, if you have ripped the scene, convert it to an avi that vegas can handle. I’d prefer mjpeg, but if your scene is short (or you have plenty of drive space) you could use uncompressed avi – that codec is really free :)))

Then after the conversion open the file in Vegas, and edit.

    Hope I could help.

September 20, 2007 at 5:45 pm in reply to: question about very low quality 😉

Meanwhile I got it to work. Thanks your input anyway.
I modified the DVD PAL template first to 352×576, then did a test render (1 min video).
DVDA accepted it. Then I reduced the bitrate to a lower level
(4Mbps max, 2.7Mbps av. 192 kbps min), then did a test render again. And voila, DVDA accepted it as “native”, so it won’t reencode.

    This is my goal.
Keeping the video 720×576 would not allow me to reduce bitrate without compression artifacts. This resolution drop (720 to 352) is unnoticeable because of the really poor quality of the source (I’ve never seen such a bad tape),
and it allows me to keep the whole material on one disc.

    Now it’s under rendering.
I don’t know why I could not get it to work yesterday.

Anyway, thanks again for your input .

    Best regards

    Hi Arthur,

I have to ask if you have installed an nvidia driver for your card, or do you use the windows built in driver – if so immedately install the nvidia driver.

Windows built in driver does not perform very well…

September 1, 2007 at 5:27 pm in reply to: Trying to create chapters and thumbnails in DVD Arch

    Hi,

When rendering out from Vegas make sure ‘save project markers …’ is checked.
Then DVDA imports these markers as chapters automatically.

    Hope I could help.

    Hi,

I’m not sure, I just belive that a dynamic compression
    will do the same.
    Or… ?

    [DSE/Spot] “You’ll do better resizing/cropping with Pan/crop vs TM”

You’re absolutely right, I just thought of TM because if it’s
about tons of photos, that means tons of pan/crop while TM is done at once…

(assuming pictures are the same size)

    Hi,

If you’re about to add pictures:
add a picture, rightclick it on the timeline, choose properties.
Set up waht you need, then click the small disk icon to save settings.
The following pictures should be added with the newly set up properties (aspect ratio).

Another way is (if you already added them) to slightly resize the track with track motion, practically you get the same effect…

    Hope I could help.
