Interesting. I don’t know how tough it would be to have 24p on the Pal system but I did get a degree in sound many years ago which I don’t use to much these days. But, I find things are similar. Audio has 8 bit sound and graphics deal with 8 bits as well. As for sound we delt with harmonics and I noticed that 12 was a frame rate of the camera so I would think that 24 would be a Harmonic frequency of 12 which would make it eaier. But then again I have no clue what goes into building these, I just enjoy being the end user.

So is the Pal version going to offer advanced 25p or other Advanced p’s using the P2 cards? I would think many people who buy this camera are thinking about shooting features and then wanting to transfer to film in case their film is a sucsess.

Thank you, that helps to clear it up. So there is no 24p it is always a 23.976 so it is NTSC compatable. I would hear people saying 24p and 23.976 and they are one in the same from what I gather here.

    Thanks you.

So the HVX200 cameras do shoot at 23.98fps so they are compatable with NTSC 29.97. So, shooting with these cameras with the intension of transfering to film stock you are still shooting at 23.98? Correct?

So during Transfer to film is the Video footage sped up to 24fps from 23.98fps? or is it left at 23.98 and transfered to film that way?

I know they don’t just play the the video and transfer to film. Every video frame is scanned to a film frame. I’m just wondering how they do the transfer with miss matching frame rates and audio sync.

    Thanks,

I see. So the advanced 24p (Hvx200) will lay down a true 24p to the P2 cards since it is really shooting 24P, not pulling them from 30p. That is good news then and I can see why the HDV cameras are worse now.

My second questions it this. Is it True 24P or is it a 24P drop frame which is 23.something? So if I wake up one day and say. I want to shoot a film and transfer it to film to play in theaters I switch it to 24P. Or I wake up and say I want to shoot a film that will air on TV and flip a switch to 23.967 (not sure about that number) to match video drop frame so my audio will sync up.

Is the camera 1 or the other or both?

    Thanks again.

Interesting, so the RoHS will apply to all products that are currently on the market. I would think the DVX 100a would still be able to sell since it was designed and sold before these laws went into effect. But all newer models would need to meet these criteria. I was not aware that you could no longer sell the 100a line because or RoHS law said so.

As a consumer (meaning my opinion), I still feel that they are to close in price. And it would be worth the extra 2 grand for the HVX200. Granted I don

I must say that after reading so much about the camera and it’s fast approching release date I am starting to have my doubts. I do feel the camera will be ground breaking, but I feel it will be the second relase of this camera that will be great. The DVX-100 had some issues and with lots of feed back and a year later the DVX-100a was relesed that addressed some problems. I get a little worried when there demo video they release isn’t even shot with the camera. What also throws me for a loop is they just released the DVX-100B a couple of weeks ago. I would think they would wait until the HVX200 and sell that as the new camera and not build another DVX camera.

So I think I will be waiting for the second release, the HVX200a before I sink 6 grand and another 4 grand for memory cards. I want that camera badly but I don’t want to be part of the first mass testing group with so much unknown about this technology, a release date next month and no one I have heard has seen test footage from it.

    That’s just me though : )

I guess the post I read at this site was incorrect https://www.hdforindies.com/

It stated that Firewire would not handle HD.

It’s good to know that it will be able to handle that.

This is all true. But I hate the feeling with this camera that if you do want to record to DVCPRO 50 or 100 you have to use the cards. Tape and firewire out will not give you 720 @ 24p from what I have read. I understand the tapes needing to flag the frames for 24p. But if the firewire out is only going to be 60i then they are forcing you to buy the P2 cards to do anything other then 60i, unless what I have read is incorrect.

Don’t get me wrong, people who make money doing video production can pay for P2 cards because they will make their money back. But I see it as 3 types of people. Pros would use Varicam, Hobbyist and small biz would use the HVX 200 and Tourists would use the $800 mini dv bought from places like Best Buy.

If the cards were at a right price I would buy this camera day 1 if any were able to be bought. I think for me I will wait to buy to work out the bugs. Like the DVX100 to 100a. Audio sync issues with FCP and need an extra plug in to help.

There is just to much unknown about this camera to invest so much. Better to wait for the bugs to get worked out, plus the cards will be cheaper by the HVX300 camera.

This is just what I think of course.
