I agree and am thinking that it’s something related to audio outside the vegas app. Audio is controlled by Realtek software but whether it’s built into the motherboard or not I’m not sure (former I suspect). I did try updating and reinstalling the audio drivers but that didn’t help. It does seem odd to me that it worked well prior to the c drive changeover but not afterwards…
Perhaps a new audio card is worth considering?

Hi folks, thanks for the feedback and trouble shooting questions.
Steve, I’ve played the a rendered file on VLC and microsoft media player, and the same audio issues show up there. I dropped the rendered file on a new instance of vegas and played it off of the time line, and the problem was there too.
Bob, I tried rendering in several different formats (avi, mov, wmv, and mp4-mainconcept avc/aac) using various settings (including changes in the custom options), and while the audio issues express themselves differently (e.g. tonal changes) I always get the dropouts in the same places with lower quality generally.
James, thanks for the work around suggestion. I have SVP 11, 12 and 13. While I had lots of crash issues with version 11, version 12 was very stable, and this is the first time I’ve had any audio issues (i.e. 13 was stable until this issue arose after adding the ne hardware). The work around seems like a lot of effort given that vegas is built around a high end audio editing application. If worse comes to worse I’ll try this to get my project completed but hope that in the long run I can find a solution.
I replaced my c drive a few weeks ago and added a geforce gtx 460 gpu and have been rebuilding my application files. As part of the process I added avid’s dnxhd codec as I wanted to try rendering lossless files that I would recompress in handbreak (heard that the render quality was superior for vimeo than what vegas could produce?…). Not sure if there is a conflict there somewhere?…
Any additional ideas very much appreciated!

Used Nigel’s suggestion:
“Under preferences for Audio Device, DESELECT Enable Track Buffering”.And now everything seems fine (so far :).

For some reason this has never worked well for me and vegas does not seem to recognize the sequence of some naming conventions my cameras produce (including my sony nex-5 — not sure why?…).
As described in the link included in my original post at the top of this thread, I wanted to do this so I could handle multiple stills as if they were a single video event (i.e. zoom, pan, fxs, etc) and not lose the resolution of the original stills. Based on the help I’ve received here and other web locations the work flow I use now for timelapse and stop-motion is:
1) batch edit stills as RAW files in CaptureOne
2) import all stills as individual events, drop them on the timeline, and arrange in the sequence I want
3) save as a .veg file (project file)
4) open veg file in a new project (in my case, often many separate veg files) which lets me handle the veg as if it were a video event
5) edit as desired (eg, add fxs, pan/zoom, etc)
6) then render
I’m still not certain if any quality is lost limiting, for example, the amount of zoom I’m capable of when vegas processes these toward the final image/event(i.e. there may be some resolution quality lost), but it does work and the resolution is higher than rendering the stills to a 1080 format and bring back as a new video event, allowing for longer zooms and pans etc.
If you or anyone knows what is preventing me from importing my stills as a sequence I’d love to hear from you/them as I’d like to experiment with this technique too.

Another approach I have tried unsuccessfully is to pull the batch of photos from the project media folder into the timeline in reverse order, but again could not find a way to do this. Seems doable? Is there a way?
Still searching for ideas/solutions…

I used your method Matt and was successful in completing the sequence like I had wanted.
I did have one issue though that I was not able to sort out… sometimes vegas would recognize the still series, other times it didn’t. Trial and error allowed me to find a combination that worked, however I’m not entirely sure why vegas recognized some and not others…? Suspect it had something to do with the file name as image size and file type were not limiting factors (i.e. jpeg and tiffs up to 5m worked). Ideas anyone?
Nigel, also interested in your approach though haven’t tried it yet. A couple of questions: 1) do you know how much detail is retained when rendering stills to a lossless video file, and 2) in your second example what is a “Veg file” (not sure I understand what the process is here)?
