another followup to my own post.. I installed Vegas 15 trial on my desktop PC and now the .mp4 from the TriCaster imports and plays just fine! But, sadly, a .mov from the TriCaster, a camera ISO recording, recorded on the same day shuts down Vegas 15 trial. This same .mov will import and play just fine in all my Vegas 14 and Vegas 12 programs on all my laptops and desktops. So… anyone got any suggestions?

Does the render crash at the same point each time? If so, you may have some corrupted media on the timeline.

Have you tried disabling GPU acceleration?

I should add that the same .mp4 clip will play just fine in VLC, PotPlayer, Windows Media Player, and Quicktime Pro Player on all my PCs.

Just out of curiosity, I turned on the GPU acceleration and Vegas 14 promptly crashed. But before it crashed, the playback frame rate was greatly improved on the multicam edit I was working on! And it continued to crash..

So, looks like we can’t have your cake and eat it too.

I used a workaround, made an mp4 with HandBrake and all is good. No glitches to dodge.

I did however chase the problem a little further and found the issue was with the 5th, 4GB segment within the 7 segments that made up the 2hr 28 min clip. It only displayed 13 frames when dropped onto the Vegas timeline. How or why this 21 min segment corrupted the entire 2hr 28 min recording will just remain a mystery. It was only corrupted when dropped into Vegas, in all other players it was fine.

On a side note.. I’ve used these cameras, and MRC CF card recorders for well over 10 years and never had to study the ru-util.exe and the file structure of the CF cards until today. Because it had always worked.

The mp4 I substituted looks just fine and I’ve already completed the multicam edit.

I also consider this technology very old. But, using the 128GB CF cards with the HVR-s270 / MRC-1, I am able the cover meetings, events, and musicals and record 9+ hours without stopping. And do all this with three HD cameras and still be under 500 GBs total. This very old technology has its advantages.

I use BlackMagic Video Assist to record off the camera’s SDI output if my client doesn’t want HDV. They generally don’t know or don’t care what codec I use as long as the final is 1080p MP4 or .mov.

I cannot weigh in on the benefits of Vegas 15. But my experience with Vegas 14 has been overall excellent. I have not experienced the crashes that others are reporting. I do not use GPU acceleration. That may be the difference.

Not sure why your display got rearranged but you can put it back to default by doing this..
press “ALT+D”, then press “D”

Great switcher, absolutely the best bang for the buck out there.

The control panel is optional and rather pricey. It is possible to operate it wo the panel using a PC running BMD software.

This PC is required for operation anyway so give it a try.

The downside is that all the incoming signals will have to be scaled to match the the switchers resolution and frame rate.

So you may need converters for all your sources.

I hope all this information is accurate, if it isn’t just disregard it.

Found it! Right click inside project media window. Click VIEW and add columns or subtract columns one at a time. Still no DEFAULT layout but this gets me back where I need to be.
