Over 500 pages…nice! There is also a cool little guide for FCP7 to X transition:

Probably not full round-tripping. Typically once a show is handed of to audio you’ll get finished stems (dialog, fx & music) ready to cut back into finished show for delivery etc.
If it’s a true AAF that should mean it could go into any AAF friendly app like Nuendo, Avid, Vegas Pro, PPro?
Hey what’s with all these pro features and FCPX anyway?

Same! Not a multi-cam guy but the video on the Apple site looks pretty “pro” to me…

Yes it seemed to work well with 1 extra monitor and 1 RAID which seems like a real world set-up for portable editing?

I just read the article. Makes sense – although it’s a big pipe it’s still only one pipe. We wouldn’t stack our graphics card, Kona 3 and fibre channel card into a single pci-e slot and expect everything to run at full speed?
An iMac has 2 Thunderbolt ports – are those separate channels?

January 30, 2012 at 7:46 pm in reply to: San Fransico FCPUG drops final cut from nameExactly. I’m guessing Apple will release update BEFORE NAB. Man that would be sad thought to change to the Premiere group – I remember cutting a feature back in 2005 as an Adobe beta site and showing all the guys in the various suites PPro – they’d all laugh and go back to their FCP suites. Now they’re all gonna switch? Next you’ll be telling me the Cippers are gonna sell out Staples Center… oh wait…

January 30, 2012 at 10:13 am in reply to: San Fransico FCPUG drops final cut from nameAs far as the LA group is concerned, not sure if this wasn’t a mistake. They still draw good crowds to the Barnsdale regardless of the name. LA already has several other post groups including Avid and others. Mike Hortons FCP group helped grow FCP in LA for over a decade and it’s sad that they would cave this early in the FCPX era.
Time will tell but what if in a year or so FCP is back on top? Will they change the name back? If not, that means anyone else can now come in to the biggest post market there is and start the LA FCP User Group. I would have waited at least until after this next NAB before throwing in the towel. Avid and Adobe will never draw the young excited crowds like FCP did in the early days at the LA Film School.
There’s nothing cool or exciting or groundbreaking about using PPro or MC. We all felt like we were really starting something back in ’99 with FCP and our blue and white G3’s. But strangely, when I read a post by Bill Davis or watch a tutorial by T or sit working with Tonalizer inside FCPX, I get that little spark like it may just happen all over again… not right away, but I truly think FCPX could be the killer app we’ve all been waiting for…

January 29, 2012 at 5:07 am in reply to: Rendered with Sony Vegas, but then architect pro has to decompress. why?I usually use variable as it will adjust bitrate automatically based on the complexity of the scene. If you have a show with mostly static shots or talking heads, CBR is fine.

January 28, 2012 at 7:55 am in reply to: Sony Vegas Pro 11 Won’t Render Certain FilesYou may want to try something like MPEG Streamclip to convert files BEFORE you bring them into Vegas for editing:

Have you tried putting one raw clip in a new Vegas project alone and rendering it?

January 28, 2012 at 7:51 am in reply to: Rendered with Sony Vegas, but then architect pro has to decompress. why?As far as rendering the MPEG-2 so DVDA doesn’t have to re-compress – you’ll have to experiment with different bit rates depending on the running time of your show vs. quality needed. Once you choose the DVDA template as you’ve don, you can further customize the settings such using either CBR (constant bitrate) or VBR (variable bitrate), 2 passes (which won’t increase the size but can increase the quality on certain scenes) and there is a quality slider which I usually leave on High.
You’ll notice under both Constant and Variable you can type in your own bps values. If you choose Variable – try setting the max to something like 7500, Avg. at 5,000 and leave Min alone. You can experiment with these values until you get a file size that easily fits on a single layer DVD. Your audio can also effect file size – use separate Dolby Digital AC3 at 192k.
