Also try turning off GPU (CUDA) just before render and check Maximum Render Quality.

Although I’ve used MC for years off and on I’ve never been a fan of it – yeah it’s used and proven in lots of scenarios but if you’re coming from FCP 7 Premiere CC is going to be a welcome relief. This silly hoopla over the Adobe subscription model is total crap perpetuated by a bunch of trolls who don’t use the software anyway.
Yeah you can buy MC 7 now for $999 – that gets you around 2 years of the entire Adobe suite and who knows how many automatic updates. Avid will most likely have MS 7.5 announced by next NAB – you’ll have to pay for that and about the time your $999 is used up Avid will most likely have MC 8 on the horizon. So there’s really no savings in “owning” the software unless MC 7 is all you’ll be needing for the next few years and you never use Photoshop or After Effects…

The DVD spec has never changed/evolved like Blu-ray has so any authoring app that will run on your OS is fine as long as standard DVD’s exist. What updates would Adobe make to Encore for regular DVD’s?
Now I was always hoping that Adobe would update the Blu-ray side of things for fully 2.0 compliant mastering including animated menu’s and BD Live etc. But it looks like that’s not happening and will remain in the realm of the big bucks/industry standard authoring app’s like Bluprint:

I agree optical discs are still alive (for a while) and most folks still watch DVD’s and NOT Blu-rays – which is great for me because hit movies are almost always available on Blu-ray at Redbox.
While I’ve used Encore and the old DVD Studio Pro on a few gigs here and there my go to authoring app for years is DVD Architect from Sony. It comes with Vegas Pro and I’ve done tons of projects with it including several retail feature films.

While it does do Blu-ray, none of the sub $1,000 authoring programs can do proper BD 2.0 etc authoring. You still need a higher end app for those. Sony has a bunch of pro Blu-ray apps to:

Buying a “new” 12 core? You’d be better off buying a maxed out iMac with the 2GB GTX 680 GPU – this is faster than anything you can throw is a Mac Pro – I personally wouldn’t buy a tower because you’re 1. it’s just chock full of ancient technology and 2. it’s basically end-of-lifed with the new Mac Pro on the horizon.
Go iMac or PC until the new MacPro is shipping.

If you’re using it for Resolve I’d stick with a pro card like the Quadro K4000 or whatever your budget allows – while the gamer cards are very fast, both AMD and nVidia purposely cripple the cards for 8bit output only. Using a Firepro or Quadro gives you 10 bit possibilities if that’s important to you – of course you need a 10 bit display.

Those benchmarks are both entry level $400 cards. Not gonna see benchmarks against GTX series because it is a gamer card and only outputs 8 bit so useless for paying post work.

Pro Res is a compressed format – very few productions except huge budget feature films are really working uncompressed anymore.
Make sure your audio previews (waveforms etc) are on a fast media drive and NOT your system drive. Set this up in Scratch Disks panel – by default I believe these go in an Adobe folder on your system drive. I create a folder called Adobe Temp on my fastest drive and make sure all my previews are created there – much faster and better when editing.
