Yeah, I guess it is definitely more logically consistent now in version 6… it treats the photoshop files like nests… (which technically they are)

So in that respect it works much like after effects…

After effects gets away with it tho because there’s a quick easy way to replace a nest/composite… (so you can quickly replace it with an altered duplicate nest)

is there a similar quick replace of a nest in FCP you can think of to save having to copy and paste all the attributes, make sure it’s in the same position etc etc etc?

    Hey thanks for the reply,

I’ve got a workaround which involves importing the file into each sequence, copy/pasting the filters, motion, opacity etc etc onto the new file, dropping it into place, reapplying any transitions etc… that lets me have independent clips…

What I want though, is to do the edit, duplicate the entire sequence 20 times, and then just change the inner sequence of the PSD to reflect the appropriate change. (or better yet, pay someone to do the change.. not something I can do when it’s as involved as version 6 makes it)

It’s always worked in past versions. I’m guessing that there’s a legitimate answer relating to “make independent clip” or the whole “master clip” dark art that was introduced in version 6….
