    Hi all,

Just thought I would post my experience with the General Error (88) problem. I was successfully Printing to tape when all of a sudden I couldn’t get past this error. Tried all of the above remedies to no avail.

What fixed it for me was simply trashing all the FCP 7.0 preferences as per Larry Jordan’s instruction on the web somewhere as well as repairing the permissions on the Boot drive.

After that PTT worked fine again. Obviously you have to go in and reset all your preferences again.

Now it could have been either of the two things I did so you could try one at a time.

Just thought it might help someone.

  • Don’t feel dumb. I think you may have discovered the answer to my problem as well.

I was wondering why my XDCAM EX 24p in a 59.94i sequence was stuttering with the 4 frames and one repeating thing as well. I will try the Output Fields setting – not set to “same as source.”

At least for me, this is not an obvious oversight.

    Thanks

    Thanks Andy.

I guess I should give more details of exactly what I’m trying to do. I have a map from Photoshop that I put over a black floor object in Motion and with properties rotate to the vertical around Z. I have it reflecting into the floor plane. I then applied a Camera to the two grouped objects to dolly in to a specific point. At this point many layers of roads Write on to the map.

What I’d like to do is create place names that are locked to a point on the map as it rotates and is zoomed in through the dolly move of the Camera. I was hoping to have the text objects stay horizontal through the move and possibly scale.

Now I thought I could Analyze a spot on the map group and then apply a Match Move to the Text layer pinning it as you suggested.

Is there a way to do this? Do I need to export out the map move and re-import it as a video clip?

Seems to me a cumbersome work around. I would have thought that Motion could decipher the pixel moves even in a group.

    Thanks

    Hi Travis,

Just wondering if you ever found the problem. I am having the same problem with Motion 4. Most layers or groups won’t even take the Analyze Motion behaviour. Just separate video layers will. When I apply the Match Move behaviour to a text layer the tracker is not visible at all and yes all my view items are turned on.

    Anyone have info on this?

    Thanks

Thanks for your help Shane. I believe I have an Older version of Shake on my system somewhere. My AE is still only 6.5.

    Thanks Andy. I’m going to try that. I was just double checking the PDF Manual and read this;

-SD 4:3 Select this option for standard 4:3 NTSC or PAL video. When
upscaling to HD, the video is captured in pillarbox format.
-SD 16:9 Select this option for widescreen 16:9 NTSC or PAL video.
When upscaling to HD, the video is captured in anamorphic format.

Then I checked back with this thread.
So I also thought maybe fooling the system by selecting the SD 16:9 might get the results Shane is getting.

Yes Andy, that is what I have found too. I didn’t think setting the “HD to SD aspect ratio” control had anything to do with up converting SD. I think it always has a setting of some sort. I have always selected the “Scale input for capture” option as well.

    Maybe there’s something I’m missing?

Shane. I agree. I believe full hardware up-scaling of the 4×3 SD would be best. It’s just that as you’ve read, at least for me, the MXO2 is not bringing it all the way to full 16:9.

    Thanks Shane.
After some more reading I see that standard prores should work well As far as the latest driver (1.5.1) for the MXO2 with Max I have that installed and it seems even according to Tech support it is not yet capable of cropping. I mentioned to the tech that one of the AJA products I worked with was able to center cut the 4×3 on upres and he said it would be passed on to the engineers.

May concern with my workflow is obviously the scaling required to fill the frame from side too side being well over 100% at 136%. I wondered if there is a preferred method or software to accomplish this step. I have read here by some that Compressor does the best job over Motion and FCP. This presumably with respect to the earlier versions of the two softwares. It may be that with the advancements in FCS3 there is a better method now. Having only just taken delivery of and installed the new version, I am unsure if there is a higher quality route here?

I guess at twice the price it’s not really important to use the 32GB SDHC over two 16GB for now anyway.

    Thanks

I haven’t seen any mention of whether the newest 32GB SDHC cards work in this MxR card reader. Any word on this?

    Thanks
