Thanks for trying to clear this out, it’s apparently alot more complicated then one would initially think it would be. I’m starting to wrap my head around it but some things are still an enigma.
One thing I don’t get is this: 3 tracks, first track solid color red and composition mode add. Second track, solid color blue and make it child to track 1. Third track solid color white, on it’s own.
Now if I lower the transparency to 0% of either track 1 or 2 things go as expected, you get just one of the colors as there’s nothing to add and the white bottom track isn’t lighting anything up as it’s not getting any chance to “peak through”. Same thing happens if I lower both track 1 and 2 to 50%, white still doesn’t affect anything. If I however lower track 1 to 25% and track two to 50%, The white bottom track starts shining through causing a brighter tone.
This sure was trickier than expected, but your reply certainly did help to cast some light over most things after a good 3 reads. I can see the full understanding approaching on the horizon with some minor additions 😉

Ah good, some confirmation that the 2 versions can be installed at once, I haven’t yet confirmed this myself just heard it is possible. There’s been no need here as I haevn’t felt that I need any of those extra effects as of yet. Vegas is a very complete program. I’m new to video editing too so that may be a reason but I don’t know, I just don’t feel the more exotic transitions etc has much of a place in my videos. It feels more like something present in a show like Americas Funniest Homevideos or something 😉

Migration of plugins to 64bit will probably be slow. Everything has been historically so far since 64bit is yet to become mainstream. Even now when 64bit gets common on computers with high memory 32bit applications is still the most common and few bothers about the difference.
Still if you don’t really need any of the 32bit plugins 64bit is probably the way to go. You could have the 32bit installed at the same time and load the same projects in that version if you like. But if you open projects with 32bit effects in the 64bit version These will of course not be available anymore.

Actually, I’m glad to hear someone else is stumped on how this highly abstract system really works. My question isn’t so much about how to achieve this or that effect. I think I got that under control. What bothers me is that the system is complicated and I don’t quite get it all together and fully understand it. Just like you say, it restricts my creativity to not fully understand how it works.
It’s amazing to not see a more detailed information about this in the manual. This made me wonder at first if I was missing something obvious and had a really unbright moment, but I guess that wasn’t the case then 😉
Let’s hope someone on the forum can explain this!

I’m new here but I might aswell answer that. My experience is that the x64 version is slightly faster at rendering and other tasks. How much faster? depends alot on what you do and your system in other terms like memory, hardrive etc. I primarily run the x64 version and I think it runs fantastically good. No matter the rendering speed you are getting access to your computers RAM if you have more than 3gb of ram which is another benefit of course.
You are right, there are few plugins yet that is available to the x64 version but they are slowly appearing. Also I don’t know about you, but I rarely need any extra plugins so I’ve found the x64 version the best.

True, it may not be. I’ll test with the gear I have and consider if it’s worth the money to upgrade, but I’ll probably come to the conclusion that it isn’t at this point. I just hope I can get some decent keys with my current toy. 😉

I’m not aware of what this feature does, but it sounds like you mean the flickering is added during editing. This isn’t true, it’s there in the raw footage from the camera. Or did I misinterpret you?

Well I don’t have any other camera options and the 7D for example is beyond my league pricetag-wise as I’m doing this at home as a hobby with no income from it what so ever. Chroma keying isn’t a big deal to me really, I’d just being able to add it to my possibilities.

It’d be interesting to hear what kind of results you’d see with this camera. I know it’s not meant to shoot super high quality stuff but it still shoots a pretty darn fine 720p and higher when things are properly lit. The reason I choose this camera was due to it’s highspeed video recording aswell as highspeed photography features combined with a decent HD camera function. It was simply an “all-in-one” kind of a device that would be good enough for a hobby level of all the above things and it is, I’m just not sure whatever chroma keying is a stretch or not.

I’m not looking to shoot a movie for the big screen here exactly, I’d probably be holding the wrong camera all together. My expectation is more like in the area of ok quality VGA possibly 720p results. I guess it’s down to trying. It’s fantastic (read interesting!) how different replies I’m getting on this question. I get answer s all the way from IMPOSSIBLE to VERY POSSIBLE. Guess I just have to go ahead and try myself and see just what I’d end up with and whatever this is good enough or not.
