Try using migration assistant and transfer account settings and applications from the mac that has FCS6 installed. I think it is only the installer that is a problem. Migration assistant will transfer the applications with no problem. Works the same as installing.
If you don’t want to transfer all the files in the account you can just create a new account and only transfer that account. The applications can still be transferred.

Actually, it will max out at appx. 3.3 gigs if you put 4gigs in it. Yes One gig of ram will help. The other thing that can speed up those macbook pros is a 7200 rpm harddrive. You just have to decide how much to spend on an older machine.

Is Mpgstreamclip better than the apple mpeg2 encoders? I bought the Apple encoder some years back to convert the files. I’ve already converted them to .dv files, I was just wondering if FCP works better with another codec than dv.

    Thanks for the advice.

The original files on the dvd are 640 X 480 mpeg2 muxed. There is no audio because the old 8mm films didn’t record audio. I have done various conversions over time to clean up the original footage in photoshop but always the content is 640X480 in either quicktime or quicktime dv. I’m just wondering if I should convert the video to another format ahead of time that will work better when combining photos.
Yes I will be using movement with the photos.

Here is a short segment of one of the videos.
Thanks again. I just want to make good decisions to start with since this will be a long process.

June 30, 2011 at 2:25 pm in reply to: RED 5.04 installation problem

This happened to me after I tried to update to the 5.04 from the original Red 5 installer. I had also upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 in between the original install and the attempt to update. I had the same basic message but in OS X parlance. I usually rebuild permissions after a major change or install but didn’t this time after the 10.6 update.

    Just FYI.

I had a similar problem on my Mac. I had to rebuild permissions and everything worked fine after that. I don’t know the equivalent to fix this on a pc but it is a file permissions problem.

I can’t get the activation window to appear now even when I select it in the help menu. It won’t allow me to activate it. I ran a new trail version thinking it would update my current install, but it reverted to the demo mode which is expired and I can reactivate it. Any one have ideas on what could be wrong?
