Thank you everyone for all your insight. I think the duration of test as well as what they ask me to do would be a good hint. And yes, I would be suspicious if a recruiter asked me to spend all day on editing a full piece of something that they might use later.
In the meantime I did a bit of my own research and found an interesting point coming from the graphic design world:

    Thank you Steve.
I don’t think I would have problem if an employer asked me to just demonstrate my technical skills, but I am a bit concerned if they ask a candidate to produce a creative work for testing purposes. What is the guarantee they won’t use it later? Shouldn’t I ask for a kind of copyright disclaimer?

Thank you. That’s really a bad news (2 episodes each 1 hour long with a lot of edits :((( ). At least I know what to do next time.

The project was edited based on three nested sequences (multicam footage). So the nest itself is edited. I guess it’s a bummer …. Is there any way to safe myself from re-editing the whole thing?

Thank you. Now I know it is bad and should avoid it . Now the question is how to un-nest?

February 16, 2010 at 12:41 am in reply to: FCP 6.0.5 and IO

    Hello,
I am experiencing similar problem: FCP 6.0.5, AJA software version 6.0.3, System: 10.5.8
Log and Capture window confirms the signal from VTR, I can move the buttons, but the only thing I see are blinking green stripes in the bottom of black screen.

    Please advise.
    Thank you,

December 10, 2008 at 6:24 am in reply to: transfer 24p to mini dv PAL (25fps)

    Thank you Daniel,
This is actually not me but a friend of mine who shot her movie on 35 mm film, has it already on hdcam 24p, and now, for some reasons, wants to transfer it to miniDV in Pal system, to eventually digitize it in to her FCP.
I suggested that she transfers to FCP directly from hdcam in lower res (if she has access to a deck), otherwise i suggested to make sure that the final clips used for offline are at the same frame rate as film (just to be sure). But since I don’t want to give her wrong advice, I wanted to hear from you guys also.
