I hate to ask this then– I know how to move and crop in event pan/crop but I don’t know how to position different elements in track motion… the rendering screen that pops up doesn’t make sense to me… I tried playing with the parameters on the left, but can’t understand how to simply re-position each video track precisely in track motion..

Perfect! worked excellent…

OK.. so now 🙂 (you knew another question was coming)…

I have my video set up..1 multi-camera video track, plus 1 single camera background (for the Gaussian blur from before).. two video tracks on the timeline… Audio is all good now.

Now I can’t figure out how to assign effect to a start/stop point on a video (so far the Gaussian blur, for example goes for the entire track). I am trying to do this with my timeline..

1. start with a bunch of useless video I want to ignore
2. fade in from black
3. fade in to black and white effect and stay B&W for 30 seconds
4. go to regular color for most of video.
5. go to B&W again as video is ending (last 30 seconds)
6. fade out to black.

My issues are:
A. when I try to select a region of the video track and apply something, I can’t figure out how to not apply an effect to the entire video track…
B. I am also not sure where I should get a B&W effect from..
C. How do I apply such an effect to multiple video tracks (so for example the Gaussian blur background isn’t color while the rest of the video is B&W)

Again, if this is all obvious on a vid in Sony/ youtube, please just point me to it… I looked at a few videos but they kept doing something called a Sin City effect.. I just want regular black and white for a couple portions of my vid..

ok… all is well with the video…

now another question on the same project.. so knowing the history of what was done with the video (4 video tracks combined into a multicamera edit)… I have all my takes done and the video is working fine…

but now that I have 4 tracks of audio sitting there, I want to do similar thing with the audio (decide which tracks to use when for audio)… I have one master audio track (recorded separately) that is for the main section, but I want to use portions of the other tracks of audio for the intro and such… how do I select portions of the audio without it impacting my video selections?

ok, mike… I am on to my second video ( a series of 3)… I have exactly the same issue as this thread dealt with, only now the tracks are not merged into the multi-track takes yet..

the question is:

is there an advantage to somehow applying the background gausian blur to the single 640×480 track before merging it all into a single video track with multi-takes?

If there is.. how to I work to combine the two tracks (640×480 front and background) first into one track before merging it into the multi-track video takes track..

woohoo! it worked 🙂 … I finally realized I had to do the pan/crop you mentioned or the gausian blur and such wouldn’t work.. very cool effect.

this looks like what I am needing to do (your first option).

My two immediate questions are:

a) my multi-camera track is now a single track merged for takes. Do I need to go back to re-creating my original tracks (re-synching them etc) on the timeline, BEFORE merging them for takes to a single track? I am on Vegas 9pro.

b) You mentioned putting the 640×480 track in question can be handled well by using a different sized background. You said put the original on the upper track and a scaled-to-fit version on the lower track, and talked about doing different things to each. Sorry for my denseness here. How do I create such “upper track/lower tracks” out of one video track I am trying to change.

I think I understand the concepts you are giving me here, I just practically am still new to how to do this stuff. Where is Upper and Lower? Are those properties of any video track? Do I create two separate tracks and use the same video source, then somehow merge them?

I am not sure how it would effect the technique used, but I want to end up with a 720p resolution video (@ 60fps), like my current 3 source tracks of video (aside from the one in 640×480). The video is part of a “extras” feature for something else, but a DVD, but requires the 720p final form.
