He probably wants it for the same reason I do – I have an Xpress dongle full-time for my laptop and my MC dongle only part-time because it is usually running my desktop at the office. When cutting at home, I use the Xpress dongle unless the MC one is available. Does anyone know if this is OK to do on a Mac?

    Thanks Evan!

I’d greatly appreciate it if you would post the exact settings when you get a chance.

    Thank you DW,

I have practically memorized that manual! First I had a loose firewire board, which had me trying every menu configuration before I ruled it a board problem. Secondly I discovered that you can downconvert via firewire to FCPro wQuite easily but it will not work in Avid express Pro. (at least not to DV, I have not tested DV50). Now I am trying to get it to dub to a DSR-40. At one point I had a strobing picture, audio and no TC, but now all I get is E-92. My question is – has anyone had it successfully downconverting to a DSR-40?

I can downconvert to FCPro as well, but as soon as I hook up my deck I get E-92. Has anyone been able to downconvert to a deck via firewire without getting E-92? If so, what deck?

Thanks for everyone’s help. I was forgetting about 894 and set it correctly. I also had to adjust 892 to return a DV signal. Oddly enough it did not matter what 880 was set on.

My problem seems to be the Avid/deck interface. Is successfully downconverted to a DV deck and to FCPro, but had no luck capturing in Avid. Has anyone had any luck with Avid Express Pro 5.7?

    Thanks Gary,

That answers my question regarding an “obscure” setting. I have adjusted all of those settings as per the manual’s instructions, but I didn’t do the power cycling, other than the autocycling that the deck does. I will attempt it again, cycling the power of both the deck and the Avid as suggested.

    Gary,
Sorry if my post sounded snide (promting your “read the manual” reply!), but in trying to figure out my problem, I was surprised to see so many other posts with the same problem. I have studied the manual extensively due to a loose firewire board (I thought the problem was a setting). Given that others have had the same problem, I figured that there must be some obscure setting that we are missing. “We” includes our local Panasonic rep. Having said that, I have already tried every configuration of the 020-023 settings. The SDI downconvert works just fine. What particular settings in the 600 menu should I be looking at? I didn’t see any that could affect firewiredownconvert, other than 620 format, but that shouldn’t affect whether or not I get an image.

Any help would be appreciated. I am the first to admit that problems are 95% operator error so I like to eliminate every possible user error before I surrender to the techs (who are 1000 miles away!)

I, apparently like many others, have tried everything to get a downconverted image into my Avid Express Pro via firewire. I could not make it happen and neither could one of my rental clients. If this really does work, what is the trick??!!
