  • By the way…

Our goal is to transfer the video to film for theatrical distribution (it is a film featuring the Dalai Lama), and so I am not sure if this will affect what the settings (for the Kona Utilities, or FCP) should be.

    Thanks again for your ideas,

  • Hi Ron,

Mackie has always been good to me too. I bought the 1402, and it’s a well-made mixer.

Actually, when I select either the +18db setting, or the +24db setting, it also affects the output from the XLR outs (from the far left “Balanced Audio” XLR connections”. I haven’t tried to see whether
the AES/EBU outputs would be affected, since I have the mixer connected to the “Balanced Audio” output connection.

I will look into the other Mackie hardware that you suggested.

  • Thanks, Ron.

I’m absolutely loving my Mackie 1402 and my Kona card also.

Regarding teh Kona card… a sound engineer friend of mine thought that it was odd that the Kona utility panel only allowed for either +18db or +24db in the output audio settings. He thought that this was why the gain was so high coming into the mixer. I wonder if Kona can change that to allow for a zero db output level from the card?

  • Hi Dejan,

Once I opened a Quicktime file in Final Cut Pro, and then opened a QT file in Quicktime, the syncing issue went away. Very strange.

Perhaps we should open a new thread on this topic so that others who are experiencing the same issue can join in on the discussion.

  • Hi again…

Strange… After I opened the QT file in Final Cut, I opened the same file in QT and then a DVD in the MAC DVD player, and the sync was fine. Maybe it was a temporary driver conflict?

Thanks again to everyone for their feedback in this thread.

  • I checked a Quicktime file that I played through FCP, and the sync is right on, but playing that same QT file in Quicktime produces a delay. A DVD played in the MAC’s DVD player also has an audio delay.

Since I would like to play all of audio through the Mackie, I would like to make the adjustments needed to have sound sync with any audio outputted from the Mac.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Khashyar

  • Well… I took the very good advice of getting and hooking up a Mackie Mixer, and it sounds great and there is no hiss 🙂

The one thing that I need to adjust is that there is a slight delay in the sync of the sound compared to the picture…

Any ideas of what to adjust?

    Thanks,

    Khashyar

  • Thanks again for the feedback.

I just picked up a Mackie 1402 at the Guitar Center a couple of hours ago, and now I’m going to set it up in my system.

The Tannoy Reveal Actives must be a really amplified speakers… I don’t know why the volume is SO high on them (there is no volume knob on the speakers to make any adjustments).

    I also have a Tannoy subwoofer…

Do I place the Mackie between the Kona card and the Subwoofer (which then has XLR outs to the speakers), or do I put the Mackie between the subwoofer (which DOES have a volume control) and the speakers?

I will let you know how it all works out.

  • Thanks, Ron… I think that I will buy a mackie 1402.

Since the sound level seems to be very high going into the speakers (or perhaps the powered speakers are really amplifying the XLR audio signal), would adding a mixer and adjusting the input and output gain on the gain remove the hiss that I hear as well?

    Khashyar

  • I appreciate your advice, Bob.

So, are you saying that powered speakers are designed to have a mixer between them and the incoming XLR audio?

I assume then that passive speakers (non powered) could be safely connected to the Kona XLR audio outs.

Does everyone on this board who uses a Kona card and active speakers, have a mixer connected between the two?

Would the mixer correct the hissing sound as well?

    Thanks again for your feedback,

    Khashyar
