    and one that’s not funny:

What other features have made it into v3 for us with a non-Intel computer or is this only a rev for the intel macs?

    Thx!

  • I also use the Kona LHe card to ingest DVCProHD from the Canon H1 into Final Cut Pro. I would love to stop using the camera as a deck, but guess what? There is NO DECK on the market that currently supports Canon’s 24F mode. So, for now, I take in via the HD SDI to LHe. I do not have the benefit of getting timecode in using this method, so that’s a bummer if projects ever come back for re-edits. I’m also looking to get the HD DV Connect, so thanks for the review. I have yet to hear if it supports 24F…

One thing that nobody has mentioned is the workflow to output to tape. I have found interlacing issues due to the fact that HD is upperfield and SD is lower field. What I do to switch fields and make the 24F footage look great, is to do a pass in After Effects of the final file. I interpret footage as lower field, resize it for SD (either letterboxed or cropped full-screen) and then render it. It takes FOREVER to do this render, so I usually leave them overnight.

Walter or anyone else, does the Kona real-time output do this field-switch automatically? I’m almost always doing outputs to DVD, so it doesn’t help me much, but is good to know for archiving.

    Thanks. Kevin

Same here, Walter. I’m ordering the component input card, as well. I do wish it came with the 2nd set…if even RCA inputs. Oh well…

My room is about the same size. I went with the 50″ because when you view 4 x 3, suddenly your monitor becomes much smaller. We are doing a lot of HD stuff, but still have plenty’o SD, as well. It was still surprisingly large…especially for the editor sitting closer to it.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did end up getting the pro model and went with the 50″. I’m currently wondering if it isn’t too big for the room…hmm…never TOO big, right?

So, it looks fantastic with all the Canon H1 footage I’ve shot so far. Thanks for the info…

Sorry if I’ve misunderstood. Are you saying that the picture actually looks BETTER and not just bigger on the 50″ models? Seems to defy logic, but I’m not the best at understanding res & pixels.

    Thx again.

Actually, Bob, the 2 that I’m comparing are the “Consumer” TH-42PX60U and the “Pro” TH-42PHD8UK. They are both 42″ models and both 1024 x 768.
I guess the connecters and the color (Silver vs Black) are mostly what is different. The specs on the consumer one actually are a little better…of course, Panny has announced their new line to ship this month…

That said, I think I’ll probably stick with the Pro version…if nothing else to get the BNC inputs. I’m sure I’m paying a little more for the “Pro” label, too. 🙂

    Thanks!

Cool company here, too. Not THAT cheap, but good quality in small form factor. I have a 6 output component DA and it works terrifically.

I mentioned it several times. Nobody replied about it. Specifically, you can load “look up” tables and I cannot believe that BM doesn’t ship the one for the Dell monitor. Also, not sure how much work it’d be to just add a black, white & contrast levels adjustment on the utility.

Correct me if I’m wrong on this, but if the extreme is like the HDLink, it plays out to the monitor pixel to pixel. On a 30″ monitor you will have black all around it and it won’t fill the screen. The 24″ seems to work better.

    Am I wrong about this?

    Thx.
