I’m sorry to say, but I didn’t find a solution in Cinema 4D. I bit the bullet and learned Max and the effect I’m aiming for is coming together nicely thanks to the Rayfire tool.

I appreciate all of your help, guys.

Now, these efects are for a short film i’m working on. As soon as it’s finished i’ll be sure to post up some vids of shot breakdowns and later maybe even some tutorials to help those who might be in need of it. Just my (intended) way of saying thanks to such a wonderful communnity 🙂

I guess i’ll have to tone down the action a bit then….

Thanks for the help, guys. I’ll see how it turns out.

Ok, I thought of something kind of related to the stand-in concept – what if I get a person to play me in all of the scenes, then I take a digital camera and record (at a bare minimum res) exactly how I want the shot to be. I could then show this to my camera man so that he can actually see teh movement and framing of the shot. Knowing my actors, they won’t have a problem spending an hour or two conducting this exercise.

I won’t do this on the day that we’re shooting as it would take some time, but i’ll do it as part of the pre production phase.
    How does that sound?

Oh and as for the fight scene issue, I think i’ll follow Richard’s advice on it, but would that technique work for a fight scene with the same pacing and angles as this one? – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UI31KnJoIAc (2:04-211)

Hey thanks a million, man. Not sure it’ll work too well for fight scenes, but I suppose it’s better than nothing.

Ok that would have probably worked if I had a continuous audio file that spanned the duration of the comp, but the gun shot sound is just a couple frames long. I want the sound file to play when the muzzle flash is at full opacity.

Thanks for the response and the link, but I already explored that option and it didn’t quite work out 🙁

No worries, i’ll figure something out – thanks every1!

This is turning out to be a headache… I’ll try what you said, but the ExplosionFX pieces are going to be the problem, they don’t collide or do anything realistically except explode… Ah well… then again, I could try to bring in the shatter effect from AE into the mix…

I’ll repost if anything comes up.

    Thanks again!

Ok I just came across a cool tool for 3DS Max called rayfire – it does exactly what I need. Is there anything like this for C4D? If not a completely different program, then are there a few steps I can take to have an object destroy part of another and have the resulting fragments collide with other world objects?

Alright… well truth be told, I haven’t had much faith in the explosion deformer, it tends to look a little fake for my taste. Then again, I could probably tweak some settings more then rely on AE for some composited explosions and debris.

Thinking Particles… I’m going to need more practice with. I wish it were as easy to use as Particular from Trapcode. Do you know of any good TP tutorial resources? Either that or other 3D Particle systems that work with C4D that are in league with TP?

I ask about the dynamics and the particle effects @ once because I’m working on a project where I make a building blow up. I have to create the explosion and all debris elements (dust, smoke, etc.) myself. My goal is to cut out as much roto and motion tracking work as possible and have everything to do with the building fully 3D. I don’t want to have to painstakingly rotate or track any or as little 2D elements as possible.

Why not use AfterEffects for this kind of work? It’s a bit simpler, I think…
