Give more info on type of footage. What is the codec, frame rate, screen size, audio sampling etc. What type of camera shot it?

Select the keyframe, right click and choose “keyframe velocity”. Or, for a more visual method, use the graph editor. Here’s a link for more info.

This was similar to a request that was posed before. Couple options here. Maybe try out Andrew Somers suggestion. I haven’t had an opportunity to try it out myself.

I’d use a precomp with a rounded-corners mask on it. Then just treat that precomp as the screen itself. You won’t have to mask each image this way. Also, if you make the precomp the same length as the master comp, AE syncs them. So if you go into the precomp and move the playhead to a new time, you will be at that new time when you go back to your master comp (and vice versa).

I would use shatter or Trapcode form.

Also, effects like these often get a professional looking boost by precomping the elements and time remapping them with variable time keyframes. Hope that made sense. I had a long day.

Trapcode Form might be able to do some cool things, but you would still need a 3D model created in 3DS Max or from TurboSquid as Walter suggests.

  • Do you have the text continuously rasterized in both the “Animated Text” precomp as well as the “Textured Text” layer and your master comp?

June 20, 2012 at 1:45 pm in reply to: How to key out the white bg in this footage?

If they had done it correctly in the past and the results you provided were good, then why did they make this huge change? I would tell them that it is going to take 3-4 times longer because they chose to do it over white. Then negotiate with them from there. If this is a repeating job, you have to play your cards right to ensure future work, but you definitely want to impress upon them that this was a huge mistake. Often the only way to do that is by asking for more money.

I bet you wish you could reach through the screen and rip that white sheet off the wall. Unfortunately there still is no plugin for that.

Good luck. Find some good roto music. Jimi Hendrix always works well for me.

OT a little. Video Copilot’s tutorial is wonderful, but it is being used ad nauseum. I have seen it in so many videos. I’m not judging anyone, as I used it myself, but now its getting a little silly.

1920×1080 is the resolution you should use. For final delivery, you need to contact the station that is playing the spot and ask them what their file specs are. They should give you detailed information. Then use a compression application like compressor, squeeze, episode etc to make the deliverable video file. Don’t use AE to compress.
