Thanks Roland, didn’t know there was a separate forum. I’ll post there.

However, I’m not animating the grid values, I’m animating the mesh distortion. Do a test yourself. Do a quick bend in FreeForm, then set a keyframe. Move down a 30 frames and set another keyframe, and then reset the Mesh Distortion for that keyframe. Doesn’t work like it should. It acts like a hold keyframe.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Fonts can often cause screwy things to happen. As a test, try switching it to a system font and see if the problem goes away.

Works like a charm Dan. I was going down the wrong path. Can’t thank you enough for everything you do here on the Cow and on your site.

March 15, 2011 at 6:00 pm in reply to: constant change on “y” value of Offset effect

    Hello Dan,

Sorry for confusion and thanks for your expertise.

I have a master comp with multiple subcomps. Within each subcomp, I need to have the footage move in a constant rolling loop. So I am using the “offset” effect on an adjustment layer within each subcomp. I’d like the “y” coordinate to increase constantly over time based on a rate determined by an inserted value. I want the flexibility to change all of the subcomps’ looping speed from a slider control in the master comp.

I’m not sure if that makes it less confusing.
    Thanks for any help,
    -Kevin

March 1, 2011 at 4:26 pm in reply to: CS5 RAM preview not real-time (by a long shot)

    Hey Kurt,

I was having the same problem and may have come up with a solution. In Preferences/Previews switch Color Management Quality to “More Accurate”. Seems counter-intuitive to me, but my previews are in realtime since doing that.

Please post back and let us know if that fixed your problem as well.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

December 8, 2010 at 2:10 pm in reply to: Roto Brush Freeze

I am having this same problem. I have read all the documentation on rotobrush and was able to do 3 clips with no problem (awesome tool by the way). However, on my forth clip, when I hit the freeze button, the matte path disappears and the background is no longer keyed out. And as Kris experienced, it reappeared when I unfroze. I am positive that I am using the effect correctly, something is wrong.

I tried trashing prefs and restarting the computer, but no luck. I am going to open a fresh project with only that clip and see if I get any good results.

Kris, did you ever get this resolved?

“Not sure how to make a solid”

With all due respect Renee, if you do not know how to make a solid in AE, then you should not be asking complex questions like the one you have asked. It sounds like you need to tackle the fundamentals of AE before going on a forum and asking people to do your work.

Hate to sound like a jerk, but Christopher took some time to give you a well-informed solution, and you kind of wasted his time.

My suggestion would be to go through the AE manual, read some books, and do as many tutorials as you can find on the COW and other sources. I don’t want to turn you off from posting questions on the COW, but if you don’t know the very basic fundamentals, then don’t post such a complex question.

    Good luck to you,
    Kevin

    Hey Bob,

I’m working on a similar project. I would love to hear a recap of the project. Did you end up using Syntheyes, and if so, were you happy with it? I thought the video you shot looked great and I look forward to seeing the final comp.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

My guess would be Trapcode 3D stroke.

I think the designer who made that animation had just bought the Trapcode Suite and just went to town. 😉
