I bought it today, installed it. In FCPX, after I drop it on a shot, when I go to the inspector, I don’t see any controls. No Color finale GUI. How do I get it? I also bought Impulz LUTs on sale.

Hi Davis,
Will give this a shot. I’d love to use FCPX for this, but I need tracks, for audio editing as I need to patch up unwanted commentary with M & E.
Sequence update is not a problem for me. I use the source monitor to mark in and out, drop it in the timeline, patch up audio if necessary and mark the next highlight in the source monitor again.

I use Softron. That’s exactly what’s slowing me down too, the shuttling in the source monitor. Will try changing the shift+jog multiple frame value.
Yes, it is pretty impressive on a laptop. I was using Picture Ready, but after I tried Movie Recorder, sold my PR license. MR is cheaper too:)

I was using FCP 7 on a Retina MBP with 16GB RAM and my media on a Thuderbolt GRAID (RAID 0). Never had any issues, was super fast. I also cpture the files in the background, into the GRAID. I just import the file into FCP7 and edit it. I could scroll to just 1 sec behind the live feed. With PrPro, it kinda updates the growing file but the system pauses the edit operations when the file is being refreshed. This is only for an instant, but still frustrating when trying to edit. This is my problem.

Hi Michael. I’ve travelled to China a lot on work. I usually carry my editing MacBook Pro, another MBP for GFX, two external thunderbolt RAIDs, video I/Os, a drone for aerial filming, all the chargers and batteries required and either a GH3 or A7S. I’ve had no problems at all going through the immigration. But, my colleagues have tried to bring in ENG cameras and they always get questioned, and most of the times are refused permission to take the cameras past immigration. It’s difficult to bring broadcast cameras into China without going through the red tape. So, these days, we rent the cameras in China.
So, do ask your Chinese contacts about the process. With your equipment list, I’d apply for a carnet too, just to be safe.

Hi Sarah,
I’ve been using the Blackmagic Ultrastudio express with my retina MacBook Pro for a long time now. I don’t use the MC though. With PrPro CC, FCP 7 and FCP X the BM performs as it should with no problems. It should perform well with the MC too with the right drivers and software.
BMD make really good products at reasonable prices. I was using the AJA IOHD and Matrox MX02 LE before I switched to the Ultrastudio express. The main reason I switched was because of the form factor, the BMD is really easy to carry in a laptop bag which was pretty important to me. Also, it is bus powered.

Ripple Training is very good. Easy to follow. I tried Wohl’s tutorials first. I just prefer Ripple. Easy to listen too:)

Hi Dale, after almost 8 years on FCP ( on Mac), I had to move to MC (on a PC) this week for episodic work. The first couple of days were really frustrating. I had the same problem with moving between edit points. I’m slowly getting used to the short cuts. I still prefer PrPro or FCPX, since I’m so used to it. But I’m beginning to like the familiar feeling of the Avid, I started on the MC 16 yrs back. There are a few things I hate about MC, but I think after another week, all the frustrations would seep out.
I have most of the shortcuts mapped out like it was on FCP 7, still having a lot of gotchas. It’s all fun though. Wish I wasn’t working against a tight deadline though:(
