I am trying to figure out why Encore needs to transcode the HDV file to begin with for BluRay.
My mov file should not requre re transcoding since HDV is already MPEG 2 to begin with but
I have not been able to figure out why it wants to transcode or what files I can bring in to Encore so that it will not transcode.

So Far, I am quite pleased. We are using Dual G5 2.0 & 2.5. The open media
time line is huge for us, mixing HD and SD. Audio Gain Nomralization within the app.
I have wanted that since day 1. We have large and small projects and I really have not
skipped a beat since upgrading from 5.04. We have not worked with capturing in Pro Res
but we have for rendering with good success. But we have also kept the same workflow
we were using before and that has only gotten better for us.

One of the reasons for going with 30P is we are generating web content in addition
to HD & SD video and progressive is obviously the way to go for content that will be
viewed on a computer screen. I think strange things happen when exporting to various
web codecs like wmv, and h264mov when exporting from a 60i sequence when the data
is Progressive, eventhough everything appears correct on screen in Final Cut. I have been
playing with options, when available, for things like upper/lower/none dominance, interlace
or Progressive input, Progressive output, Transcoding to Progressive HD Movie first, etc…

Thanks for the response. It is my understanding that Final Cut is aware of 30P with some Cannon models (page 35 of the HD & Broadcast Formats PDF – Using the Cannon XL H1 HDV
Camcorder. HDV – 1080P30 is an option. This does not come up with the Sony V1U connected and talking to someone at Apple, they admitted that 24P & 30P were not exactly
supported yet in FCP6 for the V1U so I don’t know what trouble I am getting into. I have been able to make it work but I can’t help feeling I am introducing some kind of distortion. Even if it is just a placebo, I would really like to see an HDV 1080P30 capture preset for this
camera.

Some things work. I can capture but It does not appear to me that 30P and 24P modes
are supported yet although 24P may work with the benefit of Cinema Tools but I need
30P to work and I have not found a good methodolgy yet. I have material recorded at 30P but I can only bring it in as 60i, which is one of the reasons I came here.
