I was searching the COW for the same problem you guys were having, and I thought I would try something similar to the “double trimming” you guys suggested. What I did was, I created a new project, and then imported the sequence from the original project. When I when to Project Manager, the trimmed size was 1/3 the size from before. This may save some of you a lot of time then having to actually trim twice. Hope this works for everyone else.

Greg, no one forced you to upgrade to CS6 until you are ready. I bought CS6 already, but I’m only using it on a non-critical computer for testing. If your running a business with clients over your shoulder, it seems pre-mature to upgrade until all the components you need are available, and you’ve tested your setup. I’m anxious for AJA’s CS6 drivers too, but I have a system that works with CS5.5, and that’s the most important thing.

    My 2 cents.

Today I read their press release, and they did say they plan to support the FAMILY of Kona cards, so I would only assume that means Kona 3 included. I just got my CS6 in a box today, and I am anxious to use it my Kona, but I will patiently wait because I would rather have it bug-free than an early release.

  • Jeremy, thanks so much for your test. That really helps me a lot. I’ll be grilling Sonnet for some more specific answers. For now, I’ll have to rebuild my system because something is preventing me from booting back into 32-bit mode.

To clarify, the computer hangs on the GREY Apple logo indefinitely if I try to boot into 32-bit mode.

  • [Jeremy Garchow] “Did you do the terminal commands from Sonnet?”

I updated the Sonnet Qio driver..I didn’t know to perform any Terminal commands…can you enlighten me or provide a link? Thanks.

  • [Arthur Aldrich] “My advice, ditch the QIO and get a real reader.”

Easy for you to say, but $1000 worth of equipment is not something I toss aside easily, especially since it’s been working flawlessly for years now.

I will most likely rebuild my system with the older OSX 10.6.7 and stick with that since I know the QIO will work in 32-bit Kernel mode and the P2 cards will then mount.

  • [Jeremy Garchow] “Do you have another P2 Reader?”

Unfortunately not, which is why I’m here, hoping I can find the right company to point fingers at.

I thought about updating to Lion, but I’m not sure that’s a good idea either. I’ve got to check with AJA and other manufactures to see if it’s ok to make the move yet.

Does anyone have experience with Lion, Sonnet Qio, and P2 cards?

  • [Jeremy Garchow] “Why not just boot in to 32 for the transfer?”

Because for some reason, I can’t. It all started when I updated my system to OSX 10.6.8. I got kernel panics immediately following. It turns out that the Sonnet Qio was to blame. I had to boot into 64.bit mode to avoid the kernel panics. I then performed an update to the Qio and tried to switch back to 32.bit mode, but it wouldn’t boot, it would just hang. Apparently 64.bit mode is the only way for me right now, unless I were to completely rebuild my system.

July 20, 2011 at 8:30 pm in reply to: Why the urgency to jump to Avid/Adobe RIGHT NOW?

For me, the term switch is a gradual thing. It starts today but takes time to transition. I can’t stop editing in FCP7 today and begin editing on AVID/Adobe tomorrow. The learning process is about a year for me to be truly proficient. In a professional setting such as mine, I have to look at the companies that I rely on and find out where they are heading (which is why I visit NAB yearly). If I see a company that is not serving its customers well or is heading in the wrong direction or is not communicating its strategic plan, I have to assume that they are not going to be there for me when I need them. I can’t afford to wait and see what apple is going to do. By then it will be too late. FCPX may rock the NLE world in a few years, but as a business person I need to be prepared with plan B, and starting the transition now is part of that plan.
