You can go into “unmix” mode by selecting the unmix tab on the bottom right… then you will only see the selected clip regardless of what’s above it, and without any transitions…

Right, Toby’s current read speed of 600 MB/s would be an issue.

If you are playing back 4K DPX scans, the read speed of 600MB/s would be an issue… I think RAM often comes into play with longer and more complicated projects but is a cheap and simple upgrade… I notice a significant difference between 12 and 24 on two workstations I use frequently on feature-length projects.

Hi John,
I use the ultrascope running on a separate windows machine, running side-by-side with Resolve on a Mac Pro. I occasionally work in another suite where I have to use the built-in Resolve scopes on a second monitor and here are my thoughts:
– The ultrascope is much higher resolution – smaller parts of the frame (say, a streetlight in the background or a specular highlight on a face) can be very difficult to see on the Resolve scopes, or may not appear at all.
– The ultrascope refreshes much more rapidly, so you can watch a shot play in real-time and see the scope move in real-time, which can be helpful for moving lighting effects, strobe flashes, etc…
– The Resolve scopes take up a significant amount of resources which seems to impair performance. I tend to work with the Resolve scopes while doing R3D without a rocket card… it definitely slows things down.
They don’t recommend using the Ultrascope on the same machine as Resolve itself, possibly others have attempted it but I would just consider an old $400 HP workstation part of the cost of the ultrascope…

Thanks for the info Peter! Would you be able to say if the 8.2 Beta will support only one of each of those element panels, or could we build bigger?
I agree that the low cost market has plenty of options, I personally was hoping to see a larger option in the 10K-20K range (from any company) but the Element will definitely be an appealing option, even better if it can handle multiple elements…

Hey Paul,
What’s the source of that image? Are those new modules altogether or would be newly supported in Resolve? I’m hoping we see competing mid-range panels from Blackmagic, Avid and Tangent at NAB (all supported of course). BM’s efforts have created a lot of new DaVinci users out there, but there hasn’t been a full price range of panels to buy…

Hi Colin,
I use 24GB of RAM in my suite and don’t really fear putting a feature in one project, especially if it’s Alexa or DPX or otherwise uncomplicated. But on another system with 12GB of RAM I did run into those problems.
As far as using the remote versions, it doesn’t give you more control, per se, but it stores the version in the master session so that all your sessions can share that grade… When you get the cutdowns you won’t even need to apply the grades from the stills, the cutdown sessions will point to the same media in the master session which already has all the remote versions, you just need to select the correct version if you have more than one. Which of course you can’t do if you use different projects…
