    there’s a few ways to handle it. try this:

    h = sourceRectAtTime().height;
    if (h=0) s=0 else s = 70/h*100;
    [s,s]

  • keyframe velocity is pretty much the same thing as pulling the handles around the graph editor, just doing it by editing values…

    if you were to do the same set-up that i mentioned earlier, up to the creating the easy-ease keyframe, but then went to the graph editor (speed graph) and extended the handles for that keyframe to 100%, it would be the same as entering 100% in the keyframe velocity window.

  • i think you can get pretty close using easy ease and then adjusting the keyframe velocity to make the ease more extreme.

    ex:

    • add linear wipe to a layer and set a keyframe at 0% complete.
    • move down the timeline 10-20 frames and set the completion to 60%
    • then move down the timeline another 10-20 frames and set it back to 0%.
    • make the middle keyframe (60% keyframe) an ease-ease keyframe, and then right-click on it and choose ‘keyframe velocity’ and set both influences to 100%.

    i think that gets pretty close to your example.

    it would help to see the expression, but if there is a Math.round() function on the minutes, you’d want to change that to Math.floor() to prevent the rounding.

  • i’d try to grab a still frame from the webcast, take that to photoshop to remove the item. then when i’m compositing myself into the shot, i’d drop the touched-up background in there too.

    Hey Jeff, i can’t get a layered psd to work with an alpha in any version as far back as cs4, but a layered tif file with alpha will work.

    it seems like it should work with a psd… you might file a bug report:

    in the main composition, have you enabled collapse transformations for the nested comp (it’s the icon that looks like a little sun, or spike ball)?

  • as for manipulating the objects, the easy way would be to add them to the scene… ex, the shot where he steals the violin, the violin was probably not in the shot, and he simply added it when he added himself in the shot. or if the violin was in the shot, he removed it and then added his own prop violin.

    as for adding himself into the shots, he most likely would have rotoscoped a mask around the person in the foreground and then used that mask as a track matte for the keyed footage of himself so it looked like he was behind the person in the foreground.

    with the way you are set up, i would use a linear() function to interpolate between the wipe completion min/max and a y-position min/max.

    try this in the ‘numbers effect>fill and stroke>position property’:
    wipeVal = thisComp.layer("BAR GRAPH 1").effect("Linear Wipe")("Transition Completion");
    wipeMin = 0;
    wipeMax = 100;
    y1 = 850;
    y2 = 130;

    y = linear( 100-wipeVal, wipeMin, wipeMax, y1, y2 );

    [value[0], y]
    modify the y1 and y2 variables as needed to match the graph (i just estimated values).

  • by signing the value that is in another comp to ‘s’ it makes it easier to update

    you could have done it like this:
    linear( thisComp.layer("Brick_Icon").transform.scale[0], 82, 100, 0, 400 )
    but by defining ‘s’ as the value in another comp, you could more easily change to a value in another comp by changing ‘s’.

    — note, you could name the variable anything alpha-numerical, as long as it doesn’t start with a number, you could name the variable ‘scale1’ for example.
