I’ve got a call into their prod. mgr., and am trying to find this out – will repost when I know.
    Gracias.

Very confusing….perhaps I’m looking for a simple solution to a complex problem. Would it help if I record the footage in the field @24PA….as opposed to 24P?

Well….the pulldown takes place as the camera records….so the images on the videotape are recorded at 29.97. The final product is played back by a local PBS station – it’ll never be a film-out type of situation.
I’m totally open to whatever workflow is the most seamless/elegant. You guys know a lot more about this than I.

    Hey Jeremy,

I shoot 24P / 16 X 9. (Of course, that’s recorded to the videotape @ 29.97). One other thing I forgot to mention is that I bring the footage into my edit system via component.

    thanks.

You guys don’t get Bob. His bark is worse than his bite. He’s crusty and cantankerous, but donates a ton of time –unpaid!!!– to help those less informed on this forum. And for my money, there are a scant few contributing here who have the credentials, experience, and “get it” like Bob. Go Bob – keep up the abuse!! You rule!!

September 21, 2007 at 3:14 pm in reply to: Problems with Kona 3 and ProresHQ-SOLVED!

Is this “fix” hardware related, or software related? Do you actually have to open the Mac Tower and physically remove the RAM?
Also, does this bug affect the Kona 3 only? Would it affect the IO HD? Or would one need a crystal ball to answer that question?
    Thanks.

check out the new AJA IO HD which should be released any day now….list $3500, and will probably render the AJA Kona LH obsolete, as it can both upconvert AND downconvert from HD to SD. You’ll need a big stompin’ modern Mac Pro to utilize Pro Res – but it sounds like that’s the direction you’re headed anyway.
    Here’s an AJA link: https://www.aja.com/html/products_Io_IoHD.html

In Audio/Video settings/Sequence Presets you should be using a DV50 Anamorphic setting. You should have the 16X9 box checked.
Under the Capture Presets tab, you should again have the Anamorphic Box checked.
And finally, under Sequence/Settings, make sure you again have the Anamorphic box checked.
Once you get these settings dialed in, you should be OK.
Do some research on how to set up an “Easy Setup.”

Ditto what Dennis and John have said about a sturdy stand.
I contacted American Grip in LA about duplicating a set up that I liked.
It is essentially a large Combo-type stand with a “lollipop” that is rigged to accept a C-stand as the extension arm. It works really well, and can easily support something along the lines of a Joker 400 fully extended (about 8 feet horizontal).
