You are the first person I have seen that describes perfectly the same situation I am having. I have spent a lot of time on this, all to no avail. This is very frustrating.
Did you ever find a resolution?
Incidentally, I have had the same issues you describe with an ATI Radeon 7200, ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT, and my new card, NVIDEA GeForce 7300 GT. All had/have the latest drivers. All cards only had the interface issue with AE and Premiere Pro CS3. Also, all of my motherboard/chip set drivers are up-to-date. There is not a single driver on my machine that is not current.
The only way I have seen to make the issue go away is to decrease acceleration (Display Properties/Advanced/Hardware Acceleration) from notch 6 (full) to notch 3. All is fine then. I do not want to run like that though.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?
Screenshots of the problem are here:

https://home.comcast.net/~kentwolf/Image03.JPGThis, in addition to the “jiggling” interface panes, is becoming a real pain. Again, this is only in AE CS3 and Premiere Pro CS3. All of my other app interfaces are fine.
I would be very, very grateful if someone could offer a solution.
Anyone???
Thanks!!!!

>>…I think that will work, and will give better results.
I have used the workflow you stated for some time and it has worked well.
The one instance on which it does not work well is any *dust* effect.
When I would export a dust effect with BG turned off, save alpha to a TGA sequence, it never looks right.
Any suggestions for the dust fx?
Thanks.

Thank you very much for your comments. They are very helpful to me.
I do understand what you’re saying…
>>…you’ll only see the current shape for that
>>type in the top left box…Got it. Sure would be nice if there was a shape *name* there as well. That would be a real time saver. Perhaps in the next version.
>>…That probably sounds a lot more complicated than it is.
Nope. I understand.
The exporting of the sequence is very helpful. Nice.

I envision an image, say, the letter “X” on a transparent background. To me, this would be a white letter X on a transparent (checkerboard) background.
The only way I can envision an “area surrounding the alpha’ would be a single pixel width at the perimeter of the whole image.
I believe I get the message of that you basically want white whatever (text, image) on a black background. Correct?
>>…Was there any white rim around the logo at all?
At one point, yes. This was due to the feathering of the alpha mask generation. Took it into MaskPro and got rid of it.
Questions:
1.) How else could one quantify the “area surrounding the alpha?”
2.) Is there a reason I could not regularly use a white whatever on a transparent/checkerboard background? Typically, if I am making a white image on a transparent background, I make a black background layer to aid in visibility, then turn the black background layer off when not being used. If this an OK method in your opinion? I would imagine that PSD files result in substantially larger library filesize.
3.) Besides copy, then rename, what is the best way to add a new image layer in the emitter properties dialog?
4.) In your opinion, do you know of a good methodology of generating the style of images, like the face, so that it shows up well in PI?
It almost looks like the Photoshop “Stamp” efect is used on a grayscale image, but that doesn’t quite do it; almost, but not quite.
What is a good way to make a file with essentially white highliights, with enough detail to still make the face recognizeable, but make it so it works properly in PI?
Thank you very much for your response. It is very helpful to me.

Where is a documented list of what updates were done to Boris Red 4.1?
This is in reference to a post I made about the release notes of Red 4.1 simply being a duplicate of the previous version (which received no [authoritative] reply).
Thank you.

It sure would be nice to get some clarification here.

>>How to efficiently use Red transitions in FCP…
It would be most helpful were the tutorials to be platform-independent; that being, primarily applicable to the stand-alone Red engine.
I would think that any tutorials in this format would then be applicable to all.
Just a thought…
Thanks.

Absolutely!!!
>>Any suggestions you have…
Red is so powerful, one can very well not even know what to ask for.
I have buzzing right along with the new Vexctor Trace tool! The simple free turorials on Borisfx.com are a huge help to me. Also, the Class on Demand sample clips are also very, very useful. No, they do not cover a whole bunch, but the little that is there is very helpful.
I do not remember such a big drive for tutorial material for Red 3GL. Perhaps the Boris folks got the message and are trying to fix that in Red 4.
To me, this is very, very welcone!

Anything yet on this missing buttons issue? Please????
Thanks!

Tim:
Just as I was making a quick and dirty web site so you can see what I am talking about, I figured out what I was doing wrong:
When I was trying to completely fill the extruded object with the still image file, I was using the scale settings under the *position* tab, not the *textures* tab. If one is not that familiar with Red (like me), the sheer volume of settings can be confusing. I finally figured it out though…with you all’s help
I feel like such a dope…
It turns out that I can now make what wantted to in the first place.
Thank you all very much for your input ad asistance!

I saw a tutorial yesterday that pretty much did that. You mask the image/make a selection, but you have to create a working path, export that to Adobe Illustrator (*.ai), I believe you rasterize it in Illustrator, then import it to Red.
You have to have Illustrator though, which I do not.
Question: Does this forum have the ability to post images, as requested?
