    Thanks for the reply Bogiesan,

Yeah, I’ve only experienced kernal warnings maybe 2 or 3 times before. But when I say “random,” I mean that the system crashes at DIFFERENT times in the export process each time I do it. It doesn’t always crash at the same point.

So, given the fact that its at random times in the export process, I just have a gut feeling that it is something thats interrupting the process. For instance, I have a program called “Little Snitch,” which tells me each time a program tries to connect to the internet (for updating, etc.).

Most programs are either denied or accepted access automatically because I set it, but it could be a new program or utility that is causing a pop-up window as the export process is going on. I know that exporting and rendering usually takes a lot of CPU power, and interruptions can be bad.

Anyway, I was just curious if this meant something to someone, who possibly might have gone through the same thing. I just trashed the prefs, and set “Little Snitch” to not interrupt on a couple new programs, so I’m hoping that will solve it.

    Thanks-

    Ken

Thanks again for the help. Shane.

I couldn’t find a audio plugins folder in my FCP data folder, BUT I looked around, and found one in my general library folder. Absynth had created files for the plugins folders, so I just trashed them, and FCP opened! Boy, am I relieved….

Anyway, I will upgrade my OS also-but I think you’re right, 10.3.9 is probably the only one I will be able to download. 10.3.9 work ok with FCP HD 4.5? I’m assuming FCP Rescue works with 4.5?

    Thanks again for the help-

Thanks for the quick response Shane,

I repaired the permissions twice, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. The FCP Rescue doesn’t seem to do anything-but I am using OSX 10.3.5. I think the program requires 10.3.9, so I probably need to upgrade.

Also-it seems to pop-up with a message about a audio plug-in expiring (I had Absynth for a trial period) right before it quits. Could that cause FCP to quit every time until I buy Absynth? If so, how do I make FCP stop looking for it?

    Thanks again-

    Thanks for the response SHane,

    I deleted the files:

    com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
Final Cut Pro 4 Preference file
Final Cut Pro v POA Cache

These are what I read you need to delete. I had done it before, but it had been a long time. Do these sound right?

If these are the correct files, should FCP be starting without them?

    Thanks-

The velcro just seems like it could get annoying and the GL-2 doesn’t have a lot of free space. The mighty wondercam is interesting…..how does that work with a tripod though? It seems like it could be weird to control….

June 14, 2005 at 10:02 pm in reply to: any preferred monopods?

Many thanks for all the feedback guys. I ended up getting a Manfrotto 682B, which is basically like their standard monopod, but with retractable legs. The problem is that when the legs are folded up inside the monopod, they clang around so noisily that I can’t move it! So I ended up not using them anyway!

Still getting used to the feel of it, but I like it much better than a shoulder brace. I think a combination of the two can work well. The monopod definitely gives me a lot of freedom of movement. But I will definitely look into some of the add-ons you guys mentioned.

    Thanks again-
