  • Going through firewire has been problematic for me with the P2s I kept getting the same kind of error message you’re getting when I was trying to capture from the camera into FCP.

After trying everything I could think of, I finally switched firewire cables and voila, the clips imported without a problem. Have you tried changing out the firewire cable between your Mac and the G-Raid or maybe trying firewire 400 (if the G-Raid has the connection.)

If it’s not difficult, why do it?

  • In my tests with the EIA1956 chart, I found that shooting in 1080 definately gives you more resolution. What’s happening is that the CCDs are scanned to produce a 1080 image. The 1080 image is then downrezed to give you 720. It’s that downrez that reduces resolution.

It’s a shame they decided to go the 1080 route, when it’s possible to deliver the resolution the camera gets at 1080 in a lower bandwidth 720 image.

Everybody I’ve talked to says November/December leaning more toward December. I talked to a sales rep, today and he said the hold up is the 8Gig P2 cards. According to the rep, the camera could be released sooner if they didn’t have to wait for the larger cards to be developed.

Actually, companies like Century Precision Optics have been manufacturing wide angle adapters for 82mm front ends for a long time. Quite a few of them are, relatively, small in size.

I’m actually hoping to use a C.P. wide angle adapter from my broadcast lens on the HVX. I’ll have to test it, of course, to check for any resolution degradation.
