January 29, 2010 at 12:07 am in reply to: I have 350 After Effects movies – how to add a dissolve between each?Shane – I had actually already tried that. The first and last dissolve do come out as 30 frames, but all the other dissolves in between are 15 frames. BTW – my default transition is set to 30 frames (1:00)

[Rafael Amador] “BTW, you commentedof an shift in the colors; I’m from PAL land, but if I’m not wrong this is the historical issue of NTSC when the broadcasting is not very good.
You in NTSC land sure know more than me about this. “Don’t you know that NTSC is an abbreviation for “Never Twice the Same Color”?

Don’t use “send to Compressor”. Make a QT reference movie (or self contained movie) and drop that into Compressor. Compressor will run in the background by itself and won’t use FCP.

I have used both MPEG Streamclip & DVDxDV Pro.
MPEG Streamclip is free and works fine. -
Can FCP 5 even work with HDV?
I’m not positive but I think you might need FCP 6 or 7 to edit HDV. -
[Shane Ross] “I see this a lot. Either direct L&T to the card, and then wait 5-10 min for it to load, or disable networking…like Airport or Ethernet. Sometimes L&T tries to scour the network looking for…something. And eventually the files show up.”
The first two times I attempted to L&T from my SDHC card I had read posts saying “give it time and the files will eventually show up”. I left the card in my card reader for 1 hour and the files never appeared in L&T. I then put the card back in the camera, hooked up the camera with USB, and after waiting 2-3 hours the files did not show up in L&T. I then transferred the card’s contents to my media RAID, waited overnight, and the files never showed up in L&T.
I had given up and had told myself I must have a faulty camera or SDHC card. I tried again a few days later and had the same results. On a lark, I tried again about two weeks after that an it worked! The files appeared in L&T within a couple of seconds. I didn’t do anything different. It has now worked 3-4 times since then. I have no idea why it did not work the first …

I had the same problem with my Canon HF S100. It shoots in the AVCHD format. Log and transfer would not recognize the files on the SDHC card the first two times I tried to transfer the footage. I even tried copying the card to a hard drive and it still didn’t work. I tried again a couple of weeks later and it worked perfectly. It has continued to work since. I have no idea why it would not originally recognize the media.

December 15, 2009 at 2:49 pm in reply to: Western Digital My Book Studio II RAID via eSATAI have two of these WD drives.
I use the Lycom LYCeSATA-4e PCIe 4 Port card and it works.
I did have to update the drivers to get my card to work. It all works now.I received this email (in October) from MacGurus:
New (beta) Silicon Image drivers are out for Snow Leopard. We are starting our in house testing on these as we speak, but wanted to set you up with links and advise you of their existence. Our testing will take at least several days for a preliminary test on reliability. Several weeks for comprehensive testing. These are beta drivers. That means that Silicon Image also has not completed full compatibility testing and is unwilling to unreservedly state the product is completely compatible. Use with discretion! Make sure you have backups of all data before attaching your database to a host card running beta drivers.
For the Silicon Image 3132 – this is the chipset in 2 port cards for MacBookPro or MacPro tower:

For the Silicon Image 3124 driver – this is the chipset on 4 port cards:

I just saw that B&H is selling the HF S100 as a holiday special for $899. They include a 16GB SDHC Card, an additional Lithium-Ion Battery Pack, and ship for free. That’s a great deal.
