Thank you everyone for responding.

When I do the normal export as quicktime, it renders faster, yes.

But later when I click on the newly created quicktime file, it only plays in the FCP program, with timeline and all.

It’s not a standard quicktime file. I have the file on my external hard drive and even tried to open it on a pc. It is not instantly recognized as a QT file. When clicking to open, I must choose the program to play it on. And when I choose QT, it plays with the annoying interlaced fields.

What step am I missing?

I had the same problem. My friend who knew more about it solved the problem by converting the dvd tf files to avi or mov. He had to use the program TOAST with JAM. I think it was Toast version 9.
