  • Export 4 min QT conversion takes 4ever

The sequence is just 4 mins long, captured from firewire mini dv. I export with QT conversion, default settings, in QT movie. It takes over an hour and with about 10 mins to go, a general error appears.

Is there a quicker way to export in QT movie while maintaining highest quality?

    Thank you

    No need to use conversion

Just export Movie and use sequence settings

    is everything rendered before outputting?

    what if you try compressor?

i would say regular export would be the easiest way as well…since it is such a short movie

Using QT conversion, you are “converting” it to something. Do you need to convert it to something? Does it need to be resized or converted to another codec? If not, then this is not the way to do it. If you want same quality / size / codec as the timeline sequence, then just save as quicktime. You should notice your render time get way shorter if your timeline has already been rendered and you can playback the timeline without the “needs rendering” slate coming up.

    Thank you everyone for responding.

When I do the normal export as quicktime, it renders faster, yes.

But later when I click on the newly created quicktime file, it only plays in the FCP program, with timeline and all.

It’s not a standard quicktime file. I have the file on my external hard drive and even tried to open it on a pc. It is not instantly recognized as a QT file. When clicking to open, I must choose the program to play it on. And when I choose QT, it plays with the annoying interlaced fields.

    What step am I missing?

    Thanks again.
