In your sequence panel on the far left side, there are toggles for patching video. If you hover your mouse over it, it says “Source patching for inserts and overwrites”. Make sure one of those video toggles are selected.

I had this issue when I was under a tight deadline a couple years ago, so you’re not alone in getting tripped up by that.

The form factor really hasn’t come into play. There are times when I prefer the full ENG-style camera for certain parts of my job (I’m a former news/sports photog), and I have a Sony F800 XDCAM for that, if needed. But that’s rare these days.

I do use an external monitor/recorder from Atomos when doing interviews. Great to have a larger screen for my aging eyes.

Much of my work involves interviews, getting shots of employees doing their jobs helping customers, and b-roll of heavy equipment outside. Aside from the auto-focus issues, the GH5 handles it all.

I have a GH5 and a GH5s for work (Video Producer at a large company). I love the video quality, and seems to have decent ergonomics for a DSLR. Only two issues:

    1) It’s not a full-frame sensor, so there’s math involved when choosing the lens length.

    2) The auto-focus is unusable. Even with a stationary target, it will go focus-hunting at random times. I tend to leave it on manual focus, and program a button on the back to quickly let it try to auto-focus. Then I wind up focusing with the focus ring.

But I do like the GH5 image.

I’m wondering if the Color Range option was added in v2, and your v1.5.1 doesn’t have the Color Range option.

Any other M100 users care to enlighten?

As a workaround, you can always go to Levels and re-adjust, but that’s not an elegant way of doing it.

When you go to import the QT clips into a bin (Cmd+I), a dialog box appears. Right below “Import Type” is “Color Range”, with an option for 0-255 or 16-235.

In the Import dialog box, there is a Color Range setting for “Computer 0-255” or “Video 16-235”. If you were having trouble with 0-255, try 16-235. Likewise, if 16-235 gave you trouble, try 0-255.

    Hope that helps!

We are using AJA LHi driver 10.3.2 for our Snow Leopard and Lion installs. Seems to work fine for us.

    Hi Sam,

I can help with one of your Media100 issues: The Applying Audio Effects to Multiple Clips issue.

This is from my conversation with tech support several years ago:

“Apply the audio fx to your first clip. Then shift select the clips you wish to have the same audio fx applied to. Next, with your original clip selected as well, double-click on the original clip. Then go to Tools and select “apply audio effects to selected clips”. This will apply your audio fx to the clips you have selected.”

I’ve done this many times. It’s not intuitive, but it does work.

I agree with several of your other suggestions/requests.

March 6, 2012 at 11:44 pm in reply to: How many M100 users are we?

    I’ll chime in…

We are a two person corporate video team in Seattle, WA, and have been using M100 since 1995. But I couldn’t tell you who else in town uses M100. If I had to guess, I’d say not many.

We love editing with M100. It’s a first-class NLE, and we don’t want to leave. But have plenty of issues we wish they would address. We have “Platinum Support”, but since Wick left, they haven’t been as responsive as we would hope.

The bottom line is, M100 doesn’t promote and market themselves very well. I frequent several other forums here on the COW, and whenever M100 is mentioned (rarely), the response is always, “They’re still around???” With the demise of FCP, I thought this was M100’s opportunity. But so far, I can’t even use the latest AJA drivers (which the Adobe Suite requires).

I can’t really speak to the DVD, either positive or negative, because I’ve never seen it. We only have the book. So I’ll limit my comments to what I know. We also have the book for the F-800 XDCAM, and I bring it with me on shoots as a reference.
