Can someone please help me with this issue? My client is expecting me to deliver the DVD this week. Are there any suggestions anyone can offer?

I setup Handbrake as described above to run overnight, and the file Handbrake created has the .mp4 extension. It’s about 5.1GB. (The original file from FCP was 110 GB.)

When I tried to open/play the file in MPEG Streamclip, I got an error message that the file is “unrecognized file type”. I tried to open in in Quicktime – I got an error that the file is “not in a format that Quicktime understands.”

I tested this yesterday evening with a smaller file, and it worked perfectly. Did I miss something? Or am I asking too much to get 110GB on a 4.7 GB DVD?

Hi Craig,

Thank you so much for your help.

I’m looking at Handbrake and the Output settings I have are MP4 and MKV. Which do I choose? Sorry..Handbrake is new to me.

Then I choose h.264(x264) as the codec, and change the average bitrate to 2600? Do I change the framerate? Or check the 2-pass encoding box?

Is there something I can do so that I don’t get the render bars? I thought that converting the footage to Apple Pro Res 422 would resolve it.

Hi Shane,

I did not convert the size to 1920×1080. I kept it a 1280×1080. I thought 1280×1080 scaled to 1920×1080, and I didn’t have to make any changes in compressor. Sounds like I may have misunderstood…

I really appreciate your help with this!

I ran a sample of the footage from both cameras through Compressor to Apple Pro Res 422.

But, when I dropped the Panasonic footage on the Apple Pro Res 422 1980×1080 timeline, I still get the bright green render bars. Did I miss a step?

I thought this would eliminate the need to render.

Please help.

Thank you both for your help! I’ll try the Pro Res 422 sequence settings at 1920×1080.

No luck on the matching cameras, so I’ll be sure to follow your advice. 🙂

Shane, can you shed some light on what you mean by “media manage both formats to ProRes 422”? I’m sorry….I’m still learning…

Hi Shane,

Thank you so much for your prompt response, and the information on raster! I created a Pro Res 422 HQ sequence 1920×1080 and when I cut between the cameras (teacher and class), I get the famous “One or more frames has dropped during playback…” on the Panasonic footage.

Is there a way to get the frame sizes of the footage to match? Or does that make a difference?

Is there a better way to do this in the future? We’ve got a lot of classrooms to shoot…
