Apple Pro Res 422 & Bright Green Render
Hello everyone,
I’m hoping you can help. This is one of the final pieces of an issue I’m trying to solve.
I am working on a project with footage from two cameras – Panasonic HVX and a Sony XDCam. After L&T, the Panasonic footage comes in as 1280×1080; 29.97 fps; Compressor – DVCPRO HD 1080p30; Data Rate 14.1 MB/sec. The Sony footage is already in a quicktime and is 1920×1080; 29.97 fps; Compressor – XDCAM EX 1080p30; Data Rate 4.3 MB/sec.
I’m trying to use the footage in the same sequence and have set my sequence settings to Apple Pro Res 422 as recommended on the forum. However, I get the bright green render bars over the footage. It was suggested that I convert all of the footage to Apple Pro Res 422 and then use it on the Apple Pro Res 422 sequence. However, when I do this, I still get the bright green render bars over the Panasonic footage.
I thought having everything as Apple Pro Res 422 would eliminate the need to render. Can you please help me?

All of my media is on an external hard drive. I’m working on a MacBook Pro; 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor; 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory; FCP 7.

Well, the bright green render bar should be fine. That means you can work fine without dropping frames. When I mix formats, I keep them native when needed (Like XDCAM and DVCPRO HD) but use a ProRes sequence. I render when I’m done and need to output…that’s it.
Converting is better, but not required. But when you converted…did you change the frame size to 1920×1080? Or is it still 1280×1080?

I did not convert the size to 1920×1080. I kept it a 1280×1080. I thought 1280×1080 scaled to 1920×1080, and I didn’t have to make any changes in compressor. Sounds like I may have misunderstood…

Is there something I can do so that I don’t get the render bars? I thought that converting the footage to Apple Pro Res 422 would resolve it.

ProRes needs to be full raster….it is a full raster format. So the footage needs to be 1920×1080. Well, there is ONE ProRes format that is 1440×1080, but that only happens when you capture HDV as ProRes via firewire.
SO you need to adjust the dimensions to be 1920×1080
