Agreed, but somehow I don’t think our agreement will lead anywhere !!:).

Thanks Rafael: I doubt you can upgrade without charge. I saw on the “Reviews” of Express that someone was disappointed about the 1080p inability. After you wrote, I found the specs, and they do say 720p and 1080i, without mentioning 1080p–so I think it’s true.

What is coming out new: the Pro?

There are many ways to research a question: one of the main ones is getting thoughts from people who are actually authorities on a situation. That’s what forums are for. That’s why I came here and asked the question. For someone who hasn’t used either to evaluate the meaning of the comparable specs is virtually impossible. You are correct in this–by looking a bit further I did see that Express supports 1080i but not 1080p. And this seems to me a limitation–probably a significant one. I’m still asking how authorities in the field feel about Express–whether it’s robust enough or not–whether it would be a good way to edit for a year or two, or not? Whether the limitation of not editing 1080p is itself a probable deal-breaker?

I’m just practicing/learning\Lynda-ing: The little clips are just DV, ones that just happen to be lying around my PC. Does the same hold for Effects–do you do those last then take a vacation when they’re rendering, as well?

And regarding “Education”: Lynda has been excellent. Do you have other recommendations for bending the learning curve favorably. What else is out there that will make a quantum leap in my understanding Premiere, Encore, Soundbooth, and possibly After Effects?

    Thanks

That’s possible: I’ve eliminated that experiment now so I can’t check for sure. But recovering my files from the recycle bin, I can’t confirm that as being the case. It’s clear that both audio and video clips were gone from track 1. They disappeared in a single moment, at which time nothing showed up on history, and they were not restored by backing up in history. And they were not present when the last auto-save was opened. They did show up a couple of auto-saves down the line. If it happens again I’ll double check that possibility. Can you think of any other possibility?

Thanks Tim and Tam, no pun meant: Well, staying with a PC is certainly cheaper at the moment. And I work heavily in Photoshop CS4 anyway, so the “suite” advantage sounds encouraging as well. I think I’ll probably stay with a PC, and therefore Adobe for now, and at least get a trial copy and experiment with it.

So, if I do stay with Premier, do I then leave Audacity, and do all my audio editing in Adobe, and if so, can you tell me where Premier leaves off and Soundbooth picks up–does the sound editing begin with in Soundbooth and then transition to Premier?
