There’s going to be several modes of final delivery. Online, standard def DVD played on TV’s and computers, played through a projector. Broadcast is a possibility as well, but not definite at this point.

If I shoot 24p and edit in 60i, how is the pulldown removed? From my understanding, if you edit like that, the pulldown isn’t removed and you’re dealing with 24p motion judder.

What would you say about 30p? Doesn’t that handle action a little better?

Will it erase the data when it does this? I’ve used Disk Warrior before to defragment, but I’ve never used it to repair disks. I’m less worried about repairing the disk and more worried about getting my data off of the drive.

Maybe I missed something, but won’t reformatting the drive erase all the data? At this point I’m not really worried about recovering the drive itself. I am, however, worried about recovering the files on it.

Actually, Ed, I did do a search and wasn’t able to find much right away. The first response was very helpful, and when it came through I was in the middle of trying to work through the issues so I didn’t have time to test it AND post a response; am just now having a chance to do that. And that first response came through in a very timely manner:-)

Bruce- Thanks! This was very helpful. I’ve definitely run into quite a few field problems as well as cadence issues, but this method seems to work the best of everything I’ve tried thus far. You are right about HDV being upper dominant and SD being lower, which definitely threw me when I first tried to downconvert! It looked AWFUL. This didn’t quite fix everything, but it’s definitely an improvement:-)

Thank you so much for all the information! I’ve just now started doing projects that use different sources and formats. Previously I’d only done projects that had been single format and originally film transfered to tape. So I’m still trying to wrap my head around HD and mixed formats without having to update to FCP 6. I’m running off an outdated laptop that isn’t worth updating.

Do you have any reading suggestions on HDV, FCP and the Sony HVR-V1U? I love the camera, but it’s annoying that it isn’t supported by FCP (I’ve heard rumors that FCP 6 supports it).

[Sean ONeil] “Doing a reverse pulldown to footage after it’s been edited at 29.97 is an inredibly painful process. Doing each clip individually in CT is what I’ve done before. But there are alternatives.”

So what would the right way to do this from the beinning be? Edit at a different frame rate? Capture differently?

Since I don’t have an HD display and this needs to be shown tomorrow, looks like I’ll have a long night ahead of me!

Any tips on finding the A frame? I’ve had a really difficult time with that so far.

[Graeme Nattress] “The FCP display is progressive, so 24p in a 60i timeline on a progressive display will jump and jerk twice as much as it will on a proper HD display.”

So once I remove the pulldown and it is all on a 23.98 timeline, it shouldn’t jump and jerk as much as it does now, even on a regular FCP display?
