Julie, that was a life time ago ☺ But if I’m not mistaken that project was fixed by getting a hi rez caption file (.mcc, format I think????)
-
I believe that feature is new in Premier Pro 2015 (10.3)

Steve, do you know if the scc file can be used with open caption option now found in PP 15.3?

Thanks for that, Craig, what you say supports my understanding of the scenario, but I always need a reality check. Never know when the latest greatest change has popped up that negates my knowledge.
This is for news purposes however, and “professional” there has a slightly different definition than in the post production world. They want the footage NOW for the news feed in 4 hours. Many times they ask for an .mov, which I realize is a wrapper, and I could very well provide a .mov that they wouldn’t have the proper codec to read. My client represents the interviewees, who want to get as many interviewers as possible. So I am hoping there may be some suggestions that will provide a slightly move user friendly way to get a file they can use. katie gates

Thanks for responding. I did finally manage to work my way out of the problem. It SEEMS that the program would not let me redirect where I had originally saved it (although I can’t remember now if I tried to do a “save as” to the larger drive–I think I did, though) My original drive was very tight on space, and I moved over 64 Gigs off to another drive. Coincidental or otherwise (but I suspect “otherwise”), I was able to save the ASND doc after that. WHEW! Thanks for your response, though.

Ben, I just tried doing it in QT, and it worked fine, too. Since QT uses the Flip4Mac plug in, I do think it has to do with the latter’s current inability to play nicely with QT 7.2

Ben, you may be right, although I did succeed in getting the wmv file out of FCP by changing the audio sample rate on my sequence to 44.1, as had been suggested in an earlier thread. I haven’t tried the to use QT since I stopped while I was ahead. Thanks! katie

Sorry, I didn’t read far enough in the forum. I DO have QT7.2, and will try the recommended proceedures. kt of md

Hi, all. Reading this lengthy thread gave me knots in my stomache. I probably qualify somewhere in between the AVID editor Budrick21 was working with and a wannabe Budrick21. I have worked blissfully on AVID as a preditor for years. Always 29.97, always SD, and in a system set up by technician.
But as the migration in formats was coming about, I moved to a small facility where I serve as the technician, editor, and coffee maker–and I also edit on-site for some clients. I am trying to migrate into FCP, and HD (naturally). I understand how to do a cut, a dissolve and a whatever, but I don’t know what I DON’T know–the technical stuff, and it’s killing me. What would this esteemed group’s recommendation be for a dummies guide (or a class) to the technical world of kona cards, 24p, downconverting, etc. something that will get me over my ignorance hump, and allow me to understand if my problem is I/O error (Ignorant Operator) or a technical shortcoming, and what to do to address it.
Thanks!

Thanks so much! I’m sure as I dig down this there will be more questions, but that gives me a reasonable direction in which to swing my sword! And one that doesn’t necessitate immediate cash outlay for a new external. We are gearing ourselves for HDV, rather than fully uncompressed HD, so it sounds like I should be able to identify the drop frame issue without too much more hair pulling, from what you say.
Thanks again
