Sorry…I also meant to say that the only NTSC thing about these files is the resolution. They are 720×486. They were transferred at 24fps and are 10-bit RGB.

I apologize for all the confusion.

Sorry…didn’t mean to say scans…..they were dpx sequences created by transfering 16mm film from our Ursa Diamond telecine through our DaVinci 2K and then converted and saved as dpx via Max-T’s Sledgehammer HDIO.

So NTSC dpx files are a no go….hhhmmm…interesting. Had no idea.

These are just NTSC scans, not even 2K. When you say use Glue Tools to control my output what do mean exactly? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

    Thanks,

Opening the dpx sequence in QT gives me the same problem. I save a ref movie and the drop it into FCP and the codec still says “DPX Digital Film.” We really are trying to do tapeless workflow from film here, but if I can’t playback the files without rendering it would seem to me that it defeats the purpose…..speed-wise.

I’ve also tried to batch convert the sequences in Silverstack and to convert a 47,000 frame sequence took over an hour on a Quad G5 with a 14TB xserve RAID striped 5+0. It still seems to be faster to injest from DBeta/HDCAM/DVCAM dailies then to do an offline edit with dpx files.

We have a Kona LHe, so if the Kona 3 will playback the dpx sequences then maybe we should just finally upgrade.

    Ugh…so frustrating.

Thanks so much for all your help!

Thanks for responding Russell. They playback in realtime in the Viewer, but as soon as I put them in the Timeline and try to play them back in the Canvas I have to render. I can’t find a sequence setting for DPX files. What am I missing?

    Thanks,
