This may be useful information for anyone else with this issue, so I’ll give what’s happening:

Clearing the temp folder has dropped the usage to about 60-65%, so a slight improvement but still not quite right.
Trying the ‘delete application cache’ solution, however, did work! I’m only using about 0.2% again.

Thanks for your help! I appreciate it!

    George,

I’ll give that a try when I’m home. Is there any way to reset the cache without resetting Vegas? I have a particular setup, but I believe you can save your setups, too, right? If so, I’ll just save that and reset; just curious if there’s a way.

    Thanks for the help!

It was odd, as it only happened for a little bit, then I added some black black video after the end of the photo I was using as the still video to accompany the audio. Suddenly I was able to select outside of the events again. I didn’t click any preference changes or editing changes of any sort. It was a weird moment Vegas was having, I guess. I couldn’t even move my selected area outside of the events at all. I’m just glad it sorted itself out!

I won’t question it, but as I wrote the last response, the peaks somehow showed up. I guess the rebuild must have lagged. Thanks so much for your help. I’m assuming the rebuild is what fixed it, I appreciate your responses so much! 🙂

It seems neither of these worked. I even tried normalizing the tracks to see if the peaks showed, but they stayed flat and were completely blown out. They’re both reaching proper levels around -9 to -12dB. I was looking for a ‘rebuild peaks’ option, and I was so excited to see that response, but that just rebuilt a flat peak line. I’ve also removed the tracks from the project, restarted the project, and brought them back into my project media and it’s the same issue. This is odd, I’m not sure what to do.
