    Hi Craig,

Thanks for your response to my question. Bracketing is a term used in photography. I guess it doesn’t apply in this forum! I’m testing different settings to try to get the best quality image using cleaner and I’m not sure which are the best settings to use to get the best look. The pre-sets that I’m using are the ones within the NTSC folder within cleaner for Large Downloads and also for 512 Streaming.

I’m just learning this, so I’m experimenting. I’m also reading the manual and I haven’t figured out what’s best yet.

    Thanks again for your input.

  • Of course! And I could still grind my flour with mortar and pestle to bake my cakes. Sounds “easy as cake” – except that I’m doing batch processing and I need to come up with work flow standards that include the ability to compress 20-40 files at a time – otherwise I would’ve stuck with iMovie! Are you suggesting that there’s a way to work with QT to do batch compressing? Naturally, I wouldn’t be using Compressor (when I could use an easier solution like iMovie). Am I overlooking something you’re suggesting?

  • Thank you Alan. I appreciate the suggestion.

  • David,

You’re making a lot of unfounded assumptions.

  • Hi David,

I’m not sure what you’re suggesting. I have an iMac G5 with a DVD reader included.

    Hi Enzo & David,

Actually, after I rip the dv from within Handbrake I then go to FCE with the (unrealistic?) expectation that I can take the rip that’s now an .mp4 and import it into FCE. I went to the Apple store today and the genius said she’s had the same problem and her workaround is to bring the file into another program to convert it too. So, I’m back at square one – I think! Apparently this limitation also existed in iMovie 4 and was updated/corrected in iMovie 5.

Anyway, thanks for your communication. I appreciate it!

    Hi Enzo,

Thanks again. I’m experimenting with Streamclip. One more question though – .mp4 to iMovie is a single step to edit within iMovie and another step to export/output. But .mp4 to FCE (a step up as far as applications are concerned) requires the additional intermediary step of this additional converter (Streamclip) for the current scenario. That seems to be a little bit roundabout and counterintuitive. Isn’t there a single-step method for importing the correct data/format of DV into FCE for immediate editing?

Make no mistake – I appreciate your suggestion of Streamclip – but why the workaround? Shouldn’t FCE be able to import more directly albeit from another format? Using Handbrake I have a # of options but maybe I’m just ignorant of the best considerations in trying to figure out the optimum parameters!

    Hi Enzo,

Thanks for your suggestion. I’ve installed Streamclip but it doesn’t list .mp4 to .mov as an option. To be truthful I don’t know the best raw file to import into FCE. So, maybe I’m just asking the wrong question?

Basically I just want to bring a file into FCE and edit it just as I was easily able to do from .mp4 into iMovie to .mov

Any suggestions will be used immediately!

    Thank you!

  • Hi Tom,

Changing AGP to PCI worked! Thank you!

  • Thank you Tom! I downloaded the latest update but it’s incompatible with my PowerPC G5. I bought this iMac Xmas eve – so it’s not the one with the new chip. I’ve been using iMovie successfully and I’ve also tested the graphics card by running Nanosaur – which is very graphics-intensive. I guess I’ll have to call Melrose Mac (where I bought the machine) and see if they have any ideas.

    Thanks again!
