I have this same problem – I’ve tried all the solutions but still get the same – AE freezes wehnever I try to render that frame. There are not particular effects or keyframes on it that aren’t elsewhere in the comp – I am stumped

I have upgraded to Snow Leopard and have had problems with Adobe Products across the board. I would wait until 10.6.1 comes out if I were you…

Not sure if it works with CS4 because as far as I know the issue has been resolved.
Anyhoo, there are a few things you can try. All the app does is to run a few lines of code in terminal so you can do it manually if you want…
    Just type this:

    hwprefs cpu_ht=false

and that should disable it – if you want to re-enable it then type:

    hwprefs cpu_ht=true

    or restart your computer.

I am also on a mac pro and it works on mine. Is it a 2009 tower? This trick only works on computers with the Nehalem architecture you see….

I upgraded to Snow Leopard and have had major issues with After Effects CS3.
When I import a file through the import dialogue box, 75% of the time After Effects crashes. However if I drag in from the finder it’s usually fine… I also get crashing a lot for no apparent reason.

I have had problems previously – something to do with the architecture of the new 8-core – but it’s becoming impossible to work in now…

Done a bit of research into this – apparently the fault is due to Hyper-threading technology which allows your computer to sue different parts of your processors to perform different tasks.
If you switch it off you can use CC Particle World in After Effects CS3 – no upgrades or anything.
A guy has created a little app that allows you to switch hyper-threading technology on and off whenever you want. I’ve been using it for a day now and it works fantastically.

You can get it here: https://satymahajan.com/changeht/

NB: If you’re computer goes to sleep or restarts hyper-threading is automatically switched on.

Hope this helps – it certainly helped me…
