Hi,

This is a very late response but maybe it will help if you never found a resolution to this issue. I had the same problem importing a tiff file into Premiere CS5.5. When I brought the tiff into Photoshop, flattened the image, and save it as a png the image was able to be imported into Premiere but no longer had a transparent background. I did figure out though that once it is saved as a png you can open it in photoshop and just remove the background again and save it as a png without having to flatten the image. After saving it again the png file imported fine with a transparent background.
