It seems to me it would be way easier to use the piano roll of the notes and a small area right above the keyboard to see which notes are being hit. For example, a combination of keylight to pull out the green and blue areas and then a mask or track matte to limit it to a small area above the keyboard. Then you can stretch the result and fill it with red.

In AE, it looks like Plexus would be the best choice for that. You can import a 3D model of a bucky sphere for the points.

Hi, appears that the SoundKeys effect is not set up exactly in the described manner. The Output 1 and 2 ranges are not at the same exact coordinates and the output values not in the 0-1 range. If you fix those and update (click “Apply” in SoundKeys), you should get there.

For a simple solution you could try making a copy of the waveform and then animate a vectical slit to move across the screen and use it as a track matte for the copy, essentially slicing a little section of the waveform to generate the “point”. It may look just fine for your purposes.

If you make a repeating pyramid height map and composite it in hard light blend mode with a grayscale image and then add a threshold, you should get something very close to that.

In your case you can use track mattes, you can parent them to the magnifying glass, or parent all the layers that need to move together to a null object.
