    Search in the COW Archives. Plenty of people asked similar questions. Chris mostly answered them all.

    Thank’s Mylenium.

    It wasn’t in the Control Panel nor in the CD. I searched in the Help files, found nothing. This is frustrating, that keyboard (plus mouse) was expansive when I bought it! It was like >the< keyboard. I'll look again but seems like I'll have to change my keyboard. Lucky for me they gave me four (different) ones when I bought my HP. There has to be a way... Thx again. • Depends. Effects for motion graphics or for film?

    As for motion graphics, I personally think that the Stylise effects are the best. Still, depends on your motion graphics visual style..Retro / Pop Art, Clean and Futuristic, Abstract, old looking, etc. Thing is, Ramps, circles, borders, glows and transitions are commonly used to create Futuristic effects (in motion graphics) while Roughen Edges, Color Emboss, and etc. etc. are often used for Pop Art.

    Bottom line, I think it’s impossible to ask someone to make a list of the top ten effects that will produce something cool out of nothing. “Art for art”. There are techniques, etc. but if you place the wrong effects in the wrong place at the wrong time, your animation won’t be “cool” at all. Personally, all (or 99%) of the effects in AE are cool. You just need to know how to use them effectively. This recquires art and AE experience. To me, both are essentials.

    That’s how I see it.

  • Wow. That tutorial was fan-tas-tic. Great tips, especially the Keyboard Shortcuts. I use the the Blending Modes in every single animations I make and this will, of that I’m sure, speed everything up.

    Five stars.

    Wich version of AE are you using? If I remember well, AE 6.0 didn’t have the MPEG-2 codec. I’m guessing it appeared in the 6.5 version.

    Other than that, I can’t help you.

    Good luck.

    January 4, 2007 at 11:10 pm in reply to: Melting frost on window

    May be not the best solution but here’s what I would try;

    (Fractal Noise + Roughen Edges) = Frost + Liquify (or Displacement Map) = Melting).

    Turn up the complexity for the Fractal Noise and the Roughen Edges effects (I’d use “Rusty”). Play with the settings (supposing you already know these effects).

    Depends on how realistic you want it to be. I mean, you could always take some frosted still image then animate the Roughen Edges effect to make it “melt” and play with the blending modes. Distort effects too. Bottom line, I don’t think this will be pretty easy to do in AE. But still, with patience and a lot of tweaking, might worth the efforts.

    Good luck.
