The scsi card is pretty much identical to the one I replaced. It uses ATTO ExpressPCI UltraSCSI. I tested it with a UL3 Card that we had in house from another machine before I had bought this new one on ebay and it didn’t work. Like I said, before I replaced the scsi card I was unable to see any of the drives. After purchasing the new one, I can see the drives which led me to believe that this new card is working.

Is it possible that it lets me see the drives but isn’t allowing any video to pass through and I should get a new one?

Thanks for the reply. I’ve been troubleshooting it for awhile and was hoping there may be a simple answer as to why the loopback tests failed instead of going through the details. Such as the failure is usually due to the fx board for example.
I’m running OS 8.1, Media Composer 7.2v. The system had been running perfect for 4 years now. We had a power failure a few weeks ago though and the system didn’t turn on, so I replaced the power supply. It came on but the drives weren’t there. After troubleshooting with cables, i finally replaced the scsi card and could see all the drives. Opened Media Composer and everything is there but there’s an error saying sfcons_video_timeout. I can’t seem to find the reason for that error so i’m troubleshooting each card, cable or whatever. Ran the diagnostics and got a ‘fail’ on all loopback tests. so I replace the motherboard and ribbon cable since not just one card failed, but that didn’t seem to be the problem. I’m looking to replace the fx boardset but thought i’d ask if there was a simple answer to the loopback failure. Plus, I have 6 drives daisy-chained and the 2 terminators are still an amber color when everything is on, but I can see all the drives and everything still on them. So I figure the loopback failure is causing the terminators to stay amber so I need to find out which piece of hardware got shorted. Plus it’s hard to find the pieces I need without spending too much for the whole thing which we don’t need. And all I could find in the Knowledge Base was to unseat it, if that doesn’t work replace it.
We have an in-house engineer and is going to do a voltage test on all the hardware before I buy more stuff I don’t need. Unless someone has had a similar problem.

Sorry for the winded explanation. Just letting you know the problems if it helps.

    Thanks!

Hiya, I’m still looking around for some type of explanation to the error in the subject. I can’t seem to find it or not looking in the right area. Anyone have any place I can find it out? Still waiting to hear from my local AVID guys too.

    Thanks,
    Justin

    Thanks for the reply.

Just to clarify, you’re talking about making multiple volumes using disk utility and not using METAsan right? And the special software for the seats would be the METAsan software?

Also, we’re not concerned with multiple users using the same footage between the two. One user would use his footage and the other would use his own. I don’t necessarily need them to share the same footage.

So with two machines going to the Xserve RAID which is set up as a raid50, METAsan will allow them to both digitize their own footage at the same time? Or at least allow them to make graphics and renders for their own timelines but writing to the same drive without assigning permission and prevent file corruption?

Thanks for the recommendation. Is this used INSTEAD of FibreJet?

I was also curious as to my initial question if rendering, making titles, and basic editing and such is considered ‘writing’ to the drives.

If METAsan is used, does that mean that permissions won’t need to be set for the drives?

Keep in mind that our Xserve RAID is just being used to store each editor’s footage on one massive storage but they aren’t necessarily going to be using each others footage, in case that makes a difference.
FibreJet makes it seem like if one person is making graphics they have to get the write permission from the other editor. Basically they’d be switching permissions all day long which could become annoying.

April 20, 2007 at 4:30 pm in reply to: Media100HD crashes when opening Graffiti

Thx. Yea I read about the font issue but we haven’t installed any fonts onto it. Unless Graffiti doesn’t like the default fonts that come with the OSX. I will try that out anyway.
I did check my media destination and it happens when I switch it both the HD and the XServe Raid. So that made me think it wasn’t the raid either but just checking.
Went to Boris and saw updates for Graffiti. Tried to update it but said it needed the actual program, like a seperately installed version. I guess the one that comes default with the media100HD install cd isn’t good enough. So the update didn’t help unless I’m not looking in the right place.

Thx for the tip. I’ll try it when i get a chance. For now I just took into 3dmax, but wanted to learn a way to do it in afterfx as well.

    Thx for the help guys.
I’m assuming you mean X & Y being the row and columns. I re-typed them in to definite numbers. also checked X & Y Scale and typed those into as 1.

i’m using fractal noise for the animation. it’s pretty much the same as Ayato’s flag which is grayscale. and i don’t have a camera in this scene yet. Just using the camera settings within card dance effect. I don’t have anything extreme, just the same setting as the tutorial. I put a camera in the scene anyway and moved it a bit but got the same results.

am i missing something with the absolute black or white?

i have my rows set to 150 and columns set to 200. when you play it you can see the lines throughout the whole video and near the edges. That frame may have been a bad example. When i lower the settings you can see the cards througout the whole image. Let me know what settings you’re thinking of. Thx.
