Hiya. I was simulating the Card Dance Flag tutorial on ayato’s tutorials page.
i’m trying to create something similar and got this problem that shows the division of my rows and columns it appears. I tried increasing the rows and columns but didnt. Also messed with a ton of other settings to no avail. Here is a sample of what it looks like

    did i miss something easy?

    Thx.

It looks like you’ve not set Card Dance to encompass the size of your image. This explains why your cards only appear in the middle of your image. The setting in question is one of those at the top, in the Effects Control Window. Sorry, but I don’t have AE on this machine so I’m not able to give you the specific parameter to look at.

i have my rows set to 150 and columns set to 200. when you play it you can see the lines throughout the whole video and near the edges. That frame may have been a bad example. When i lower the settings you can see the cards througout the whole image. Let me know what settings you’re thinking of. Thx.

    Hi Justin,

double-check if the X and Y size are exactly set to 1 (eg. 0.996 would read 1 in the interface because of rounding error, but you would see the lines)

If you’re using asource+multiplier to animate the scales, make sure they contain absolute black or white.

What Camera settings are you using ? Perhaps a very extreme Fisheye could also cause this.

    Thx for the help guys.
I’m assuming you mean X & Y being the row and columns. I re-typed them in to definite numbers. also checked X & Y Scale and typed those into as 1.

i’m using fractal noise for the animation. it’s pretty much the same as Ayato’s flag which is grayscale. and i don’t have a camera in this scene yet. Just using the camera settings within card dance effect. I don’t have anything extreme, just the same setting as the tutorial. I put a camera in the scene anyway and moved it a bit but got the same results.

am i missing something with the absolute black or white?

I don’t know the tutorial, but I can imagine the gist of it…

if you set your fractal noise’s contrast to 0 (you should see a uniform grey solid), do you still see the seams ?

The seams are probably there because either the cards are not all exactly scaled to 1, or they are not _exactly_ in the same Z-position, I imagine that would be caused by the fractal.

Some dirty tricks that might work:

precompose the cards-layer (and any layer it needs to reference), make sure it’s on a transparant background (so no black solid behind it)
Then add an adjustment-layer with levels and adjust the _alpha_levels so those semi-transparant edges dissappear. This can do miracles, but you might use anti-aliasing if you overdo it.

Another approach might be to use a minimax on the alpha only.

Thx for the tip. I’ll try it when i get a chance. For now I just took into 3dmax, but wanted to learn a way to do it in afterfx as well.
