  • I wouldn’t say that starting pillar box, then zooming to fill the frame looks ridiculous.
You could start with the full sized portrait image, with a background based on the foreground image, either a colour from that image, or an out-of focus large scale copy of the photograph.

Another thing you could try is to mix down everything but the VO, then export with the mix-down and VO together.

    Hi Alex,
I haven’t used it in a couple of years, and I can’t find the notes I made for its use, but using the ‘difference matte’ gave me the solution to a similar problem.
Ray-ey Salah had a tutorial here:

    Hope that helps.

  • I think you have to make sure that the bins of rushes in one of the shared projects are seen in the other shared project, not just having the clip in a shared sequence.

As you have clips that are recorded at different times of day, therefore have no common Time Code, you need to find a common sync point, a plop from play-back or a particular beat, that will be common to all the takes. Mark that as an “In” mark, then in the group sequences window choose sync by “Mark In”

I often use multiple ‘Comments’ columns, put notes in those, and those can be ‘searched’ in alpha numeric order. Combine that with naming clips and making different bins for those, and you can come up with numerous ways of organising your material.
In its day that was one of the ways that Lightworks was far superior to Avid for long-form projects, with the file card you could make bins with any combination of tags, names and comments. (Ah well, sigh.)

Have you accidentally locked the track?
I’m not in front of the Avid at the moment, but there’s a picture of a padlock at the left of the track, activate the track and in one of the menus at the top left you can ‘lock track’ or ‘unlock track’.

Not Boris, but if you have the PlasmaWipe Avid Border effects in your system, use the Round borders, adjust accordingly.

In the Tools menu, click on Audio Tool. That brings up the tool for as many tracks as you have, but at the top of the timeline there is a meter for 2 tracks.
