One USB takes power from the computer to the reader (no other option), the other USB transfers the data one way. You should work with firewire to transfer the data to external hard disk..

I wouldn’t try as one USB is used by the reader as power source, the other for signal. I doubt very much that you are able to transfer data both ways simultaneously.

One of the advantages of tapeless systems is that you can download while continuing shooting without the use of a tape deck. With a laptop, the small P2 Panasonic card reader and an external hard disk attached, I download the 64GB in 30 mins. I downloaded 3 64GB cards with the 17″ Mac laptop (fully charged with good battery) without connecting it to a power source. Hard to beat.

In case you work with FCP, Raylight software might be helpful. It creates instantly .mov reference files and can be imported to FCP without time consuming Log/Transfer.

There are no propper settings, only a variety of choices. It all depends on what format you want top shoot: 720p24 or 1080p24. Without that information not even a JVC guy can tell you how settings should be in FCP.

The internet is full with similar issues. Most of the time it is a media problem. Some DVD players prefer certain kind of discs. Some DVD player wouldn’t play smoothly discs recorded faster than 4X. Check your disc on a third player, burn a different brand of disc not faster than 4X and see what happens.

The question is, why you want to purchase HDcamera for a SD project?

Don’t look at inspector. On the top row of your screen (above viewer/menu) you see the build and format buttons. When you click the format button another window opens. Look under “General” and choose “Output device”.
