And, yes, I realize my last post was entirely worthless to the technical issue at hand. Sorry, Adam!

I haven’t checked that link so it might hold the golden answer, but in some bid to be remotely helpful: I remember in playing around with AE’s preset text animations, that there was something pretty close to that. All you had to do was animate the range. Another option, just in case.

As a good Husky fan, I feel obliged to point out, whether apocryphal or not, that we at the University of Washington claim to have “invented” the wave.

    So 😛

I’ll preface my suggestions by saying I’m hardly an advanced user of AE, but based on my observations of film trailers and the like, a common technique seems to be to add a light source to create some subtle falloff effects. Other techniques I’ve seen used are various text animations of position or kerning to keep the eye trained on the text.

Just some very general thoughts. 🙂

I had this problem before, but Aharon points out in his tutorial that the displacement map effect ignores any effects placed on other layers. So in order to get it to recognize a fractal noise or color correction, you have to pre-compose the layer and make sure you choose to move all attributes INTO the new comp when that window pops up.

Anyway, that’s what I was doing wrong, at least. Hope that helps!
