  • Mexican wave with text letters? – how

Posted by Adam Taylor on March 10, 2008 at 5:14 pm

    greetings one and all,

i need to create an effect where a line of text appears to jump one letter at a time….kinda like the mexican wave at sporting events!!

is there an easier way to do it than manually animate each letter?

    Any suggestions, please

    thanks in advance

Ha, I have never heard it called the mexican wave… But after a little research (https://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_did_doing_'The_Wave'_at_sporting_events_originate) it appears that it did gain international attention in the World Cup held in Mexico… We were doing that thing years before in the Bay Area though (Go A’s!)

I think Dave already handled your question… So I guess that’s all I had to contribute =)

As a good Husky fan, I feel obliged to point out, whether apocryphal or not, that we at the University of Washington claim to have “invented” the wave.

    So 😛

And, yes, I realize my last post was entirely worthless to the technical issue at hand. Sorry, Adam!

I haven’t checked that link so it might hold the golden answer, but in some bid to be remotely helpful: I remember in playing around with AE’s preset text animations, that there was something pretty close to that. All you had to do was animate the range. Another option, just in case.
